1921 Americain

Alex,
Bill (WHL) posted an excellent suggestion at the Purists forum about VC making a version of the American 1921 for lefties..
Quest-ce que t'en pense?

Joseph

It would make a very cool limited edition... Otherwise, if you really love it, couldn't you get Dominic to charge you a small premium for 'personalizing' the watch? Long live the Lefties! Francois
I wish I could take credit...

...but I can't. It's Bill's and its really a good one. I love the watch nad a version for Lefties would be great. Maybe VC can set up a poll to see how many southpaws would really be interested. If they can get at least 50 replies from the communities here (ie THL, Purists, Timezone), there would probably be at least another 100 in the general population that would also be interested. a limited edition sounds great. Ooops... my mistake

Congrats Bill on a great idea Still, nobody fights the fight for lefties as you do, JB. When I was at the AD to get the strap changed today, there was on display an American. Not for sale, just for display/markeitng purposes (there was also a 2755...) - I'm guessing some of the pieces at Salon QP that stayed in the UK a little bit longer... The guy told me that apparently 2 people wanted to buy it right there! It is  such a stunning piece, you might have to wear it on your left wrist... Cheers, Francois
great idea but two issues...

- VC doesn't want to tinker too much with the Historiques models and considering the difficulty of delivering the current model I don't see them bringing out a new version (left hand, white metal etc...) any time sonn - Placing the crown on the left would mean having the subseconds dial somewhere around 2 o'clock, not sure if aesthetically that could work. Sorry for being the party pooper  I love the idea but just can't see it happening

To clarify...

Alex, I intended the dial to be oriented as in the picture Dean posted from Antiquorum, but with the crown on the right, at 3 o'clock. It would only necessitate a new dial compared to the current 1921, nothing else (Not that that isn't a lot of work...). Bill
hopefully (for lefties) someone at VC is reading this...

Christian?? Vincent?? Charlie?? Hello, anyone??? Again, Bill, this is a really good idea
you mean the American 1921 case but with crown at usual 3 o clock
11/19/2009 - 10:01
position? That would put the seconds subdial at 6! I think I'm not following you here
I wish I had photoshop skills...

as a picture would make my intentions clear. If the crown is at 3 o'clock then the subseconds would be at 6, but the dial would still have the 45 degree rotation from a normal dial layout, only counterclockwise instead of clockwise as in the production 1921. The essence of the 1921 design to me is more about the tilt of the dial's layout rather than the crown's position. Bill

OK I get it but I think the fun part is having the crown at

an unusual position and the subseconds tilted. I would love a lefty version with the crown on the left but with subseconds where they are on the current model but that is technically not possible with the cal 4400
Did you see an Overseas piece-unique Les Cabinotiers for lefties...

up for sale at the upcoming Antiqurum auction in New York on Dec. 9? Lot 66: here's something for you, Joseph! (unless you are the seller) Personally I would go (have gone) for lot 67, had the funds been abundant

Thanks for the tip, Radek. No its not mine, I didn't even know sometyhing like that existed. I agree about the tourbillon, though. Very nice. I won't be bidding though. Just receive a new vintage piece so the bank is empty Hopefully I will take some pics this week-end. Regards, Joseph
Thanks for pointing it out Radek, I would have missed that one! (nt)
