40 Below

In case you are wondering why I've been more prolific on the board lately (i.e., why doesn't he just go away)....IT'S FORTY BELOW OUTSIDE !!

40 Below

That is the magical point when Fahrenheit and Celsius temperatures are equal.  Your eyes freeze shut, eyeglasses frost over, and mucus runs uncontrollably out your nose only to freeze on your coat.  Footsteps crunch as you walk and the wind finds every crack in your armour.  Amusingly, teenagers continue to wear thin fashion clothing while shivering uncontrollably 40 Below.

Thankfully we have an exercise room and twenty two floors of stairs, but people are starting to complain about bike riding in the parkade 40 Below.

Until this cold front cracks and I can get back outside, this forum and another automotive forum I moderate are my virtual playground!  Patience please, better weather is forcast for next week.

Forgive my geographic indolence, Dean: what's the city in the pix? nt

lat=53.526571005, lon=-113.48727282

Radek, if you have some time to plug that in to Google Earth, you'll arrive at my home. A clue is also in my Country description....it's the most northernly major city in Canada, at 12 degrees south of the arctic circle, which is 66 degrees latitude. Nevertheless, we do get summer too.If my response is too annoying...the city is Edmonton

Jeez, Dean, Are those the coordinates of the TV in your living room in Edmonton?? Actually Radek who lives in Warsaw (if memory serves me correctly) is almost as far north (52degrees 14min.) Its only -1C there today. Stay warm! Joseph
Should be the parking lot out back! nt

One of the first thing a tourist will notice in Edmonton..
12/15/2008 - 01:33
in the winter...is that everyone drives electric cars. Even the pick-up trucks, SUV's are electric. Go to a shopping mall OR A hotel and notice how everybody is charging their cars. I hate when it is so cold that the snow crunches inside your car.
LOL....how 'bout some "How COLD was it?" jokes

It was so cold . . . the fake Rolex sellers were selling fake heaters! It was so cold... hitchhikers were holding up pictures of thumbs! It was so cold... roosters were rushing into Kentucky Fried Chicken and begging to use the pressure cooker! It was so cold . . . when I dialed 911, a recorded message said to phone back in the spring! It was so cold . . . the optician was giving away free ice scrapers with every new pair of eyeglasses! It was so cold . . . pickpockets were sticking their hands in strangers' pockets just to keep them warm! It was so cold . . . the squirrels in the park were throwing themselves at an electric fence! It was so cold . . . I chipped a tooth on my soup! It was so cold . . . Grandpa’s teeth were chattering - in the glass! It was so cold . . . the dogs were wearing cats! It was so cold . . . Starbucks was serving coffee on a stick! It was so cold . . . Playboy magazine stopped publishing because no women would take their clothes off. It was so cold . . . people with traffic tickets would plead guilty and beg for the electric chair! It was so cold . . . terrorists started to stockpile weapons-grade hot chocolate! It was so cold . . . the politicians had their hands in their OWN pockets! It was so cold... beauty contestants had to draw pictures of themselves for the swimsuit competition! It was the first time talent was an asset in that event! It was so cold . . . my mail broke when I tried to pry open the envelope! It was so cold . . . UN weapons inspectors suddenly decided that chemical weapons might be hidden in Hawaii! It was so cold . . . I actually enjoyed it when someone spilled scalding hot coffee on my lap! It was so cold . . . Richard Simmons started wearing pants! It was so cold . . . a streaker froze in mid-streak! The town council just stuck a plaque on him and pretended he was a Greek statue until spring. It was so cold . . . the Polar Bears were buying fur coats! Why do you need so many digits to define your location Dean?
Just a bit warmer!

Two days ago it looked like this and it was -3°C. Today a t9.00 in the morning no snow at all and +2°C Much better, I seen enough snow in my life Cheers Doc
Consider this alternative............

This would be a better place to consider. I know the cold well as a skier, but 40 below is over the top for me. Also a little wine in front a fire place is recommended too. Best regards and take care, Matt
Where ??

You makes me so unhappy,  but on the other hand I'm happy for you and your daughter, (I know how to handle the ladies  ) ! Could it be in Florida? Sweden some months ago, hard to belive,  the same place in june 2008 ! Enjoy your golf and the lovely weather! Doc
Perhaps a clue is in the wine?

Napa Valley, California?
Re: Where ??
12/17/2008 - 06:17
Good question, could be the coast of California for most of my photos. This one is on the Big Island of Hawaii on the Mauna Lani Golf Course in Kohola. The wine of course is from Napa Valley in California being served on the beach at the Mauna Lanai Hotel. Glad you can handle the ladies ,  My wife will appreciate the compliment and your good wishes.  Kind regards, Matt
Enjoy your time :-) (nt)
