48-hours Owner of Malte Perpetual Calendar Chrono Excellence Platine

After 5 years of dreaming, and 6 months of waiting, last Saturday I finally bought the 47212.

Unfortunately the watch was delivered with a technical problem.

Without going into all the details, in the end I wasn’t fully satisfied with the product and VC’s response to the problem, and so I decided to return the watch. To their credit, VC and Mr Bernarz understood my point of view and were accommodating, and I thank them for that.

For the short time I had the watch (less than 2 days), I was ecstatic, and I just couldn’t take my eyes off it.

Aesthetically, it was everything I had hoped for, and then some - VC had achieved perfection, at least to my eyes. The watch was so amazing and beautiful: it had the perfect size and weight; the dial was flawless, and reflected the light in the softest way; in sharp contrast, the hands and hour markers were perfectly polished and shone brightly in the light, resulting in great legibility and really making the dial come alive. But the best part was the engraved moonphase, a thousand times more beautiful in real life than in Alex’s amazing photos. Stunning, perfect, amazing, give it all the superlative adjectives you want, it was so much better than I had expected…

I am obviously very sad and disappointed that this project ended the way it did. 48-hours Owner of Malte Perpetual Calendar Chrono Excellence Platine

It was a though choice between keeping and returning the watch, and I fear I will come to regret my decision. 48-hours Owner of Malte Perpetual Calendar Chrono Excellence Platine

for you and the problem is quickly dealt with.

Problem has been dealt with...

I got my full refund and VC got the watch back

It's a real pity and I imagine how disappointed you are François!
04/11/2008 - 15:53

As you got back your funds, will they prepare you another watch, without any problem of course, or are you stopping desiring this one?

I think you did a great choice: you cannot keep something which is wrong to your eyes.

I hope you will solve quickly what to do.

Thanks Patrice for the kind words.

To be honest, I have not decided yet what to do next.

Of course, I still love the 47212, but I guess you could say that the whole event put the purchase in a new light...

I have taken and will take a few more days to think about it, to make sure I take the right decision.

Paying part of the mortgage is not the sexiest, but probably the wisest choice...

I agree with you.

I think you did quite well, and if I may help you for anything, or any advise from my humble view, it will be with great pleasure.

Take your time for deciding, anyway.

All the best

Francois,

First I must tell you how much I enjoyed meeting you and our conversations. I am sad to hear about your problems and know how much that watch meant to you, but that's in the past now.

Do you have any thoughts or plans on what you may replace it with? You seemed to like the Qdi line a lot is there one that stands out among them?

Dear Mr L.
04/11/2008 - 16:50

I am equally happy to have met you, and quite pleased to have had the opportunity to sit next to you at the dinner.

As I told Patrice, I am thinking about the future, but I haven't made my mind up yet. The QdI remains a possibility, although a distant one... As much as I like the look of the watch, it feels a tiny bit pricey for me. I definitely would give myself more time before buying a QdI, to make sure that all the love is not a result of the "hype", and that after the torrid passion, pure love remains (a bit like in a marriage)

By the way, I also think "Mr. L" suits you...

Hi Francois, it seems it has been hard on you the last couple of days.
04/11/2008 - 17:17

weighing the options...

everyone at SIHH felt compassionate about the whole situation as well as the VC team lived up to its standards by returning the entire funds to you. as you said it was no small amount... and I felt a bit post-purchase remorse on your side (because of your beloved moonphase technical problem)

to tell the truth, I don't relly know what I'd do if I were you...

anyway, I hope you made your very own and hopefully fortunate decision.

if you took a plunge once, I am sure, you would go for another one VC soon. can't wait to hear the good news from you.

I definitely will hold back any other VC purchases for the time being - the QdI is on my top priority list (and my wife has been very supportive on that one, too). although as they say, never say never...

thanks!
04/11/2008 - 17:51

Good to know that your wife is supportive of the QdI

I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up with one before the end of the year...

I wish...
04/11/2008 - 18:36

but then again I am all for the date only automatic and as you know they will not be available personalized for quite some time... and I would really like to get some mix of palladium/titanium on the case...  of them all now I like the elegant palladium model best :-)))

I feel for you and you would have expected that such a purchase would
04/11/2008 - 17:05

be flawless considering that it was made via the brand's flagship store

I'm with you no matter what you decide...

Thanks - I am comforted by the fact that I have...

What's The Story?
04/11/2008 - 18:47

Veillotron, you've dangled the bait so I'll bite!  What was the problem and why couldn't it be fixed?  I'm sure you didn't post just for commiserations

Re: What's The Story?
04/11/2008 - 19:23

Dean, you misunderstood my intentions - there isn't supposed to be a bait...

The problem was nothing major that couldn't be fixed (at least I think... - the moonphase was on steroids, making full turns by the hour), but I wasn't satisfied with VC's response to the problem.

This post is not about "washing dirty laundry in public"; the real point of the post (and I hope you believe me on this one) was simply to give an update to my fellow loungers.

After all, I have been bragging for months now that I was going to get the 47212, promised I would post pictures, etc.

And in the end, I didn't get it. Well, I did, but not for long.

So I though I owed it  to the Millions and Millions of Veillotron's fans, reading my posts every week, to let them know what happened.  And since I do not like to disappoint my Fans, here's a pic (the only one!) of the 47212 sitting nicely on my wrist (shot was taken by Alex, after he guzzled down a few glasses of champagne...):

But man does it look good in that wrist shot.........nt

Sure looks gorgeous on the wrist!
04/12/2008 - 19:08

Will you get another one?

Really really nice...
04/13/2008 - 11:25

...I am sorry to hear that after so much patience, there is a problem

But, patience is always rewarded

...hope to see YOURS pics soon

Sorry to hear that.
04/11/2008 - 19:06

QC is very essential these days especially with the fast booming watch business...I got my patrimony with a defective dial and after a few months, I returned it to VC and they replaced it with a new one free of charge and most importantly, free of hassle. I hope VC will do the same with your treasure there. Spending that kind of money must be very dissapointing if the product is not what it's supposed to be. I am sure Alex can help if needed.

Re: Sorry to hear that.
04/13/2008 - 15:26

as you say, when paying the price of a Mercedes for a watch, QC becomes quite important...

You made the good choice François (nt)

By the way, Marie-France I like your avatar - is that going to be your next watch?

Francois, very sorry to hear about your experience.

I think you did the right thing in the long-term, since you were not happy with such a high value item/service.

Please let us know what you will get in the future - we Veillotron fans want to know.

Best Regards, Dan
