An absolutely gorgeous ref 4217 with enamel dial at Christie's NY at

the June 13 auction.

Christie's keeps coming up with amazing, unique and long forgotten Vacheron Constantins, after the unique ref 6448 minute repeater in May here is a unique ref 4217 with a superb enamel dial.

Lot 120 estimated between $70,000 - $90,000

This reference 4217  was manufactured in 1953 and is one of a small series of four made for the American market and sold in New York City. Each of this select group was marked with a different reference number and presented unique case and dial designs to set them apart from each other.

Alex,  I'm curious why some examples are signed and some are not, and how can an authentic one be determined other than by going through the CofA process?  According to Antiquorum, V&C cloisonne dials were featured in the References 4308, 4466, 4730, 6178, and 6180.  This Americas version is a Ref. 4217 sold by them which turned out to be fake! Here is a correct Ref. 4730 Antiquorum sold which, so far, is undisputed...Antiquorum photo This Carvel in the VC collection, like the Christie's example, is unsigned...

Thanks Alex!  Is there a way to provide a difinitive list of those References that had enamel dials.  I don't think Antiquorum's tally is complete...
