Thanks for posting these, Jerome.  It is a good to see the variety of dials and even the occasional case variation available for ref. 628 at the moment of this catalogue.  Of course, there were also a variety of hands and even the crown varied a bit throughout the production of the Prestige de la France.  As you wrote, "Long live the 1972!" All the best, Robert

"Wiith excellent taste!" If you were immodest, respo, then this is what you could have added to the title of your post, with absolutely no disagreement from this particular quarter. Dje's generosity allows me to further appreciate both your discerning eye in your choice of "1972" as well as your patience and focus, these latter two qualities deduced from the admiring comments of fellow loungers in a previous post regarding your treasure. I find it interesting that Vacheron Constantin offered a variety of dials and cases, as evidenced in Dje's post, and even hands and crowns, as you helpfully pointed out, for its clientele at that time. Of course, this veritable cornucopia of versions makes collecting "1972's" today all the more pleasurable, I imagine. Perhaps one day I will have the distinct good fortune to verify this!
Thanks for your very kind words.

Like you, I share the fantasy of going back several decades and shopping for a Prestige de la France, choosing from among the various dials, etc.  Wearing mine always seems to transport me to Paris.  smiley Best, Robert
That's a very poetic thought! I like it :-)

Hi, When I wear my Vacheron Malte Grande Classique, I'm in Venezia, where I saw it first when it was launched. Dje
I'm glad you like them

Hi, This watch is more than a watch, even more than a luxury watch. It's more about a form of art, and being touched or not. Best Dje

Fabulous, Dje! I recall allusions having been made elsewhere on THL to a selection of designs available for the "1972" when it was launched, but I had no idea of the scope of variation. Your scans help one to compare and contrast the various examples offered, providing a wonderful treat for us loungers. I can almost imagine myself indulging in the luxury of browsing a "1972" catalogue in a Vacheron Constantin boutique, and for that inimitable bit of fantasy, as well as for the excellent sleuthing and for the trouble you took to share these with us; for all this, I thank you.
It is a shared pleasure. nt

what a great deal of dials, hard to believe you can come up with
02/10/2014 - 22:06
so many variations on just one model. So far I thought it only worked with Panerai watches... Great design calls for a number of fantastic dials!

LOL, as with us all blush.  You've seen the ribbed case before if you recall this thread from our dear respo: Prestige de la France - Questions.  Although that was posted yearly two years ago, this one last year brought forth the same image: Introducing the new 1972 Prestige.  I just can't find Patrice's original catalog pics...

I wouldn't know what that must feel like, as I seem to have been literally born absent-minded. I have been forgetful all my life, and thus my memory was never "there" to begin with. I always have to leave my apartment twenty minutes early because I am sure to return at least twice to retrieve forgotten details, and it is a six-and-a-half minute walk and elevator ride round trip between the subterranean parking garage and my front door. Even if I stop to think about what to bring before I leave my apartment, or plan my trip the night before, I invariably forget multiple items. As one can imagine, this makes long-distance travel frustrating for me, but extremely amusing for any accompanying friends or relatives. In any event, tick-talk, when I had described the variations of the 1972 (seen in Dje's post above) as a "cornucopia," I clearly spoke too soon! Thank you for embedding these two previous threads to elucidate my impressions, and as respo said in the first thread you included here, you are indeed awesome.
Please

you are rapidly using up the week's quota of hyperbole and should save some for your first thread.  IIRC, you've previously mentioned an affection for VC ultrathins, perhaps a collection?  Now there is a worthy subject for your accolades yes.

Of course, tick-talk, your memory is better than mine; you are indeed correct on all counts, and I will take your suggestion under advisement. (You may later find it necessary remind me, though.)
Thank you Dje!

I enjoyed sitting next to you at lunch at SIHH and remember you telling us the story of how you got the AD catalog. Sharing these 1972s is a real treat, merci. Best Regards, Dan
