After all the Sputnik talk... some (lousy) in the flesh scans

A short flashback in time

In 2007Vacheron Constantin launched a 10 piece limited edition reserved for the Moscow boutique to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Sputnik which was the first artificial satellite to be sent into outer space

The Sputnik houses the calibre 1126AT with wandering hours first seen in the Tribute to the Great Explorers and in fact was a prédecessor of the Masks with a tinted saphire crystal an engraved Sputnik on the dial  soaring leisurly in outer space.

Upon its launch the Sputnik immediately became a talking piece here on The Hour Lounge. And the happy few (collectors or retailers) having seen it spoke of a definite WOW effect!

Alex, you da man! Thanks for posting those pics. That's what my eyes saw but my camera failed to capture. An exquisite piece!
A true UHO

Unidientified Horological Object. So Vacheron and so out of the traditional line as design and symbol. Thanks Alex for these scans they are as rare as the watch ! Francois
Really Unique

The three dimensional sputnik on the dial is out of this world (pun intended).  I really wish the light had been better and my glasses had been at hand to get a better look in person, but these photos are the next best thing.
Could be the 'coolest' VC ever

This is what you call thinking out of the box in terms of innovative technology as well as unusual design. Out of this world fits its description quite well, Michael!
I don't know about the "coolest", there are some

pretty cool watches on The Hour Club right now that belong to some guy from Poland;0).. Congratulations Buddy, you deserve it! See you in January. Best, Tim
there's a retailer in Paris who sells only "alternative design" brands

like Urwerk, MB&F, Greubel etc... He had a client wearing the Sputnik walk into his boutique and he told me that he was awstruck, he tried to buy it right off the wrist of his client who refused! Gentelmen, I'm officially going to bid on one of these if ever one shows up at auction so don't bid against me cheeky
it is going to go through the roof, Alex! if it ever surfaces

up for salesad
you're right! let's start dissing it and make it less desirable !
07/18/2012 - 16:17
e
LOL, we won't make a difference in that case. This very VC will always
07/18/2012 - 18:57
keep collectors' interest at the highest of levels...
An awful piece of bad taste.
07/19/2012 - 00:44
Look like a cheap russian gimmick sold on the red place by some drunk ex soldier or lookalike. How could Vacheron make such a mistake? (is that convincing enough? your turn devilcheeky )
This watch is so cheaply made....
07/19/2012 - 06:42
That they couldn't even use enough screws to secure the case back! :-) Bill

I like that thought yes
I've heard that the antennae on the Sputnik module....
07/20/2012 - 14:56
weren't welded on properly and that they have been known to break off and fall into the movement, creating extensive damage to the watch. ;-)
not only that....
07/21/2012 - 21:44
they are mad of stainless steel, of all metals, second class at that, and they tend to get rusty......
Thanks Tim, you da man! California love & peace ;-0 (nt)
