Is Antiquorum beginning to be senile ?
06/02/2007 - 21:44

Antiquorum states in their catalogue :

" The watch appeared in Antiquorum "Art of Vacheron Constaintin sale on on November 13, 1994 Lot 72".

But they seems to have forgot that it was sold as late as 2005,

at "The quarter of Millennnium Auction",

at 18.400 CHF, including buyer's premium.

And a special certificate made for that auction!

Is Antiquorum beginning to be senile ?

I wouldn't have posted this, if I hadn't seen this kind of "information",

repeatedly in their auction catalogues.

I my self have at least three watches, bought under the same flag,

from Antiquorum,

well aware of it, I admit.

But it's a good rule, if you are intersted in an objecrt at Antiquorum,

to make a research, like in this case : Vacheron 394040 movement/ or case number.

You will than see how many times an object has been up for sale !

I like this special watch very much, and have some of Verger Frères,

and of course rembered it well from the auction :-)

Just my few € !

Are you referring to lot 260? Because technically they have
06/02/2007 - 21:57

not made a misrepresentation as the watch did actually sell at the Art of VC in 94 :-) even though reseld in the Quarter Millennium sale of 2005 :-)

I guess there are different ways of presenting the truth....

Correct :-)
06/02/2007 - 22:50

It seems a bit journalstic/political in it's presentation :-)

It couldn't be commercial,

that I strongly doubt !

I'm sure Dom. could confirm that :-)

Correction !!

It wasn't sold 1994 !

Lot 72 in the 1994 sale, I see it in the auction catalogue!! (nt)

The note on Lot 260 in the 2 June 2007 sale says that the lot "appeared" in the 1994 sale.  The notes does not say that the item "sold" in that sale.  According to the Antiquorum archives, that watch failed ot meet reserve in 1994.

The watch both appeared and sold at the 2005 auction.

Thanks for the heads up Michael (nt)

Alex, any idea if there was a probem with the Ref 4072 in the sale?  It failed to meet reserve and that surprised me based on the prices from the other recent auctions.

I think that the dial must have had a problem but do not have any

direct info.

Lot 146 is amazing

I would sell the children I don't have for that one!!!

The lugs, the chrono dial, everything looks fantastic!!

Here a real life scan of the ref 6087 I had taken at an Antiquorum

auction preview.

For me its the most beautiful vintage chronograph and I truly hope VC will one day add it to their Historique collection

If this was a preview of the November 2006 Geneva auction, it is the same watch that sold in Hong Kong Saturday.  And it went about 15% cheaper in Hong Kong in 2007 than in Geneva in 2006.

Yes, I'm always surprised at seeing the same watch pop back at

auction only months after its 1st sale.
