Alex, you are being too quiet...I noticed this late last night...
10/29/2011 - 12:23
...and already registered on it. Maybe I am one of the first to register on The Hour Club ? :-) Also, I noticed some new goodies - my screensaver is the World Time Screen Saver, and the next best thing now is to own the real thing.
good eye Kunal :-) its a soft launch for the moment

Something like that but it was in my broken French,

Very interesting initiative: tell us more abaout it !

Love that WT screensaver!

Not so sure about the club within a club though. We've talked in the past about expanding the lounge into sub-forums (ie, vintage, ladies, movements, "Is my grandfathers watch real", etc.) which would be open to participation without an extra level of registration or the marketing services.  Having read the terms and conditions, I'm a bit hesitant about that aspect blush.  Will those who remain with the Lounge become 2nd tier members?
Why would Loungers become 2nd tier? The Hour Lounge is a discussion
10/29/2011 - 21:28
forum and The Hour Club a collectors club which like all clubs reserves specific perks fo its members.
Re: Why would Loungers become 2nd tier? The Hour Lounge is a discussion

OK, so you just made my point...the Hour Club will have perks not available to Lounge members.  The quote that got my attention from the terms and conditions link found during registration process was, "5. The Hour Club...In addition, Members will find news about Vacheron Constantin, events and launches of new products."  It wasn't clear if Club members would be informed ahead of Lounge members, or receive information not shared with the Lounge - perhaps you can tell me?  To be blunt Alex, you have only so much energy to devote to the Lounge and Club.  Reading over the plans outlined in the terms and conditions, it seems there is a direct marketing aspect to Club membership not present with the Lounge, which would lead me to fear that it would take priority for limited resources.  OTOH, while I don't withdraw the term 2nd-tier, perhaps that is the ultimate destiny of a discussion forum in the overall scheme.  I can live with that, the Lounge is a nice place to be!
Hi Dean, I may be truly naive...
10/30/2011 - 03:46
First of all, for full disclosure, I have not been involved in the creation/decision making of The Hour Lounge or The Hour Club. I see the Club as more of a one way communications tool, from VC to the collector (i.e., I haven't found any tools or functions that would allow communications between Club members...maybe that will happen in the future, but I couldn't find them today).  As part of Club membership, one would need to accept the direct marketing aspect of the Club. The Lounge is still the only discussion forum, where people can communicate amongst each other.  And I expect VC to continue providing news of products and events the way they do now on the Lounge.  At least this is my personal understanding so far. BR, Dan
I would like to add my 2 cents to this point...
10/30/2011 - 08:21
...First, HL is probably one of the first (or the first) brand-promoted online discussion forums. New VC's are introduced on the HL before they are introduced to the general public, and HL members have an open invitation to most VC/HL events worldwide.  Considering that HL membership is open to anyone, it is an extremely exclusive forum. Second, given what I have said above, what is so 'wrong' in having a separate online vehicle for VC Owners only? Many brands have the option to register your watch or product. ALS has this, PP has this (whereas you get the PP magazine), and in the world of automobiles, Ferrari has this. I am sure many other watch brands have a owner registration option. Whether they create a community out of this I do not know. Why not a VC owners club? If someone has spent a huge sum of money on a/few VC's (or inherited one or more), does he or she not deserve to be part of a dedicated online owners only club? (VC is to watches what Rolls Royce after all.) A VC is after all an incredibly rare product, and one of the top three most exclusive watch brands in the world ! In this day and age of mass produced products and ultra competition among watch brand, a move like this fosters greater community between VC and its owners. It is a win win for both.  VC as a company needs this.  More so since VC does not have  the best visibility and distribution in the watch retail space - at least from what I have seen in few parts of the world. Brands that dont derserve to have enjoy far greater awareness and better distribution.

Further to this point Lange has a site just for owners which enables them to attend a special presentation of the new pieces as well as a private dinner at the SIHH. Sound familiar?
OMG Joseph, what next?
10/31/2011 - 16:25
Maybe they will launch a forum? THL was and continues to be the gold standard amongst brands IMHO.
Thanks Dan

Naivety is a virtue and, like innocence, too easily lost.  Thanks for adding your insights yes.
The Club like the Lounge is my idea and all that goes in either comes
10/30/2011 - 10:00
from me so don't see any evil marketing ploy behind all this, and you are just assuming since you don't know what the club offers because you haven't signed up cheeky
My sincere wish

is for success with your concept Alex.  Actually, knowing the initiative came from you is most reassuring.  KK expressed the POV well for those seeking "greater community between VC and its owners" (shall we call it a +1 tier).  You are right that I have not registered any of my dozen or so pieces, so my comments are based on what the Club offers in the terms and conditions.  There are aspects, such as the auction alert, that may strengthen the market for vintage V&C, and I can see that a network for trading/selling amongst Club members might develop.  I started the registration process twice, and cancelled out both times due to nagging questions.  Hence my desire to discuss pros and cons here in the Lounge discussion forum heart.
there is a reason behind the nagging questions :-) see my

answer below to Doc. The goal of THC is to take the VC experience to another level by offering services that a non member could not have (for ex: a collection management too, access to the vintage watches at the Geneva boutique, to have an alert function when a watch pops up at auction or at the boutique, a library etc....), other events than the HL events... Its just part of my goal of creating an ever stronger community of Vacheronistasheart But of course you need to be comfortable to register, take your time, there is no rush as it is still a soft launch and some tweeks need to be made and the club will evolve
May I then make a suggestion?
10/30/2011 - 20:49
The auction alert tool comes with caveats that VC does not authenticate the watches they identify to members of the Club.  Instead, why not insist to the group of "well reputed auction houses" that this enhanced communication is only available for pieces with a Certificate of Authenticty, as was the case with the seminal Quarter Millennium auction.  A real benefit to members IMHO, even if it has a modest cost impact.  LOL, perhaps I'd better get in on the Club if only to keep shoveling these suggestions at you angel.
one of the axes of reflection on the action tool is maybe to
10/30/2011 - 21:36
have some kind of authentification if the collector is interested in a watch which does not have a certificate. Let's see how things develop down the line. keep those ideas comingsmiley
Very interesting. I have applied.
10/30/2011 - 09:26
I will soon learn whether I made the cut. It will be interesting to see, as when asked to provide information about a watch I own I listed a vintage model. Alex, you might note that in one spot the language on the application is slightly confusing: in providing information about a watch I own (which I assume is to establish eligibility), there is a blank for "calibre." I assumed that the blank was to be filled in with the movement's serial number, not the calibre indicating the type of movement, but I was not sure I was doing the right thing.
yes Caliber number is the serial not the type :-)
10/30/2011 - 10:04
I won't be a "member".
10/30/2011 - 12:09
We had this discussion for years. Dean finally open an own site... When I read it through and look at one of my favourite watch, I find no lignes, no references. They put the number on the case, inside and on the outside back lids, and also the movement number. 18 K and Geneva Hallmark. I have no "passport", more than the one I use when I travel, what's it got to do with this? I have "only" Mr Vuilliomenet's hanwritten dates on 4 pics, after he had it at the Maison 2005 or 2006. I don't understand the questions  "where/when it was sold", first time, how should I know, when I bought it, and from where or whom is my business! My personal interests I have told at The Hour Lounge. This smells bad of bureaucracy. Stupid questions. I feel really disappointed, and if it's not Dean who will lead this division, who knows something and really owns some pocket watches?angry Doc
the case and movement numbers (and not ref) enable me
10/30/2011 - 13:09
to check that the person having signed up actually owns a VC, the Passport number is not your travel document but the document which comes with modern VCs and with that number VC knows the ref, case and movement numbers. the date of purchase enables the system to notify you when your watch is due for service As for interestes depending on what the person fills VC can invite them to specific related events
My application was accepted on the basis of a vintage watch.
10/30/2011 - 20:12
I'm quite confident that there is or will be a work-around for a watch that does not have all the required statistics. Remember, the site has only had a "soft launch" so far. Meanwhile, thanks are due to Alex for taking on yet another project to communicate with us. I'm looking forward to seeing what develops.
Alex, congrats on the soft launch of the club
10/30/2011 - 22:14
And continuing the growth of interaction and engagement with those that want to go further. And thanks for your commitment and energy to drive it forward.. Itis really appreciated. G

I love the idea of the club, and contrary to some of my fellow Loungers, I do not think that it competes with the HL, but rather complements it very well. I don't see why/ how the HC would make the HL 'crumble', they have in my mind 2 separate objectives. The HL will continue to remain the open forum that it has always been. Yes, THC is a marketing initiative from VC, but so it THL... VC has invested money and efforts into THL because of its marketing value, but they have done it the right way by letting everyone - including our moderator - share freely their honest opinions, good or bad.    Thanks Alex - and congrats! - for all the work on getting THC up and running, I know this project has been in the works but quite some time Cheers, Francois
No need to feel contrary Francois!
11/02/2011 - 17:56
I've searched the entire thread diligently but cannot find anyone who said the Lounge would "crumble".  Great to see such passion for this new initiative regardless.
Sorry Dean, you are correct

I am the one who read to much into what has been written... I do really think that it is a great initiative, and am grateful for itlaugh Cheers,  Francois
