Are you interested in something special for 2017?

To quote the other famous detective, Joe Friday; "Just the facts, Ma'am"...

Fact: 2017 is the 10th Anniversary of The Hour Lounge.

Fact: 2017 is the 110th Anniversary of the Chronometre Royal, first distributed by subscription in Brazil.

Fact: We have not had a THL watch.

I am interested in participating in a subscription scheme to obtain a special THL 10th Anniversary watch.

Proposal: That this poll serves as an expression of interest for Vacheron Constantin to celebrate the 110th Anniversary of the Chronometre Royal and the 10th Anniversary of The Hour Lounge with a subscription scheme to distribute a special THL 10th Anniversary watch available only to Lounge members.

The Chronometre Royal was introduced in Brazil under an entertaining subscription scheme which encouraged thousands of participants and made the Chronometre Royal the best selling watch in V&C history up to then.

For the sake of discussion; a $12,000 final price would lead to monthly rates of $1,000 should the scheme operate for one year.  A final value of $24,000 would lead to monthly rates by all participants of $2,000, or $1,000 if the plan were to operate over two years.  And so on.

A minimum number of subscriptions would be required to make the watch financially viable for VC. If one was to withdraw after the first deposit, they would lose their funds, which would be retained to the benefit of the scheme and other participants.  And so on.

The final price is a retail value, with the Manufacture's cost being somewhat lower.  This is how a subscription is possible; VC would not realize high profits, but rather high volume.  In complete beneficence, it could even be revenue neutral.

I have many ideas bouncing around in my head to celebrate both of these important occasions, so please forgive me in placing this item before you during the summer doldrums.  Reach out to all those you feel may be interested.  Please feel free to react with your thoughts and ideas on A) how this scheme could work, and B) what a THL watch could be.

I am definitely interested in a special THL Watch, and if the payment is

a subscription scheme it would be all the sweeter.

Is a Chronometer Royale what you would want to see? Or something else?

Whatever - it is bound to be special.

Just to answer your question

The CR line was one of amazingly varied models; gold and silver cased pocket watches varying in decoration from austere to elaborate, beefy silver navigation chronometers, gold manual and auto wristwatches with simple or flamboyant lugs, and even bronze desk clocks!  While I believe it would be completely consistent with the CR's historical provenance to offer something novel, VC's marketing strategy for the Chronometre Royal line will naturally prevail.  Regardless of what is offered, I fervently hope it carries the spirit of the original CR, a precision timekeeper robust enough for daily use, and not be too precious to leave the house blush.

Yes, I would definitely be interested and support the '&' making a one-off comeback!

VC is very good at inserting anniversary dates in a very stylist and discreet manner (unlike Dean above!).  Think 2005 staff anniversary edition.

i wanted to keep the surprise but....

Am actually working on/pushing for a 10th anniversary watch...will keep you posted :-)

I want. Just keep the price reasonable and extended payment terms. Maybe

further discount based on number of THL posts and / or Instagram VC posts. smiley

that is great news Alex

Is there any purpose in continuing this thread then?  Indication of interest, etc.

This is great news!!

Can't wait to hear all the details when they are

official. Really happy to hear there is hope.

Best to all,

I just wanted to rekindle the topic by declaring my interest after seeing Alex mention it in a recent post. Would there be affordable options (or options to make the HL watch affordable) for younger members?

Could it be an Overseas 4500?
07/11/2016 - 02:29

I'm fattening up my piggy bank for a new Overseas 4500...2 birdies with one stone?

I think this is a great idea...
07/11/2016 - 17:39

Great to hear that it is being worked on!

07/12/2016 - 21:42

Waiting for further info. But interested in CR...

A special CR dial would absolutely rock my socks enlightened

just for fun

for example

You really want that ampersand, don't you!
07/14/2016 - 14:55

I agree.  All in all, I love the idea - a stainless QdI with a whie face and blue accents (riffing off your THL graphic for a moment).  Could include a blue rubber and blue croc strap with it.  I like where this is going... Maybe even a blue seconds hand or something highlighting the number TEN - either the hour index or the date?

Re: You really want that ampersand, don't you!

Can't hurt to try wink.  But this is nice also...

You really want that ampersand, don't you!

Through the QdI's Personalization Program, custom engraving is already available.

You really want that ampersand, don't you!

The steel QdI doesn't appear part of the Personalization Program, at least online, so I had to use a titanium case for this example.  I wonder if there is capability for a special rotor?

Maybe something subtle...?
07/26/2016 - 16:44

I like the bowed banner, but after looking at some other special editions, like these two cringe-worthy Rolexes:

Maybe something subtle...?

A couple of cringe-worthy examples of added editions

How about something a bit more subtle:

Maybe something subtle...?

The Hour Lounge 2007-2017 (THL 717)

Nobody would know what the THL 717 means except those of us who ordered one. Like Dean's, this is just an idea.

Nice idea

I understand that some prefer subtle and others more flamboyant.  Those LE pieces that are identifiable only by the color or metal are IMHO just a bit too subtle indecision but I appreciate your clever graphic.

Would Vacheron Constantin Designers be the best?
08/04/2016 - 02:59

I'm no designer, and I was thinking that if a Vacheron Constantin designer did one for it, it would look the best. They'd get the color right, the fonts, everything...

By the way, I'm sold on the creamy, light, light, Swiss chocolate face over the black.

07/14/2016 - 20:20

Interesting indeed! yes

Very Interested indeed.
07/13/2016 - 21:32

I'd be very intereted, but having just added a timepiece, would need more information, model, price, when it would start, whether we would be able to pay the amount at any time etc. Lots of questions in that regards. It sounds like a great idea.

07/19/2016 - 14:57

So how would this work? I've read about the Vacheron Constantin Quai de l`Ile, and that would be a major alternative to getting a new Overseas. (I'm assuming a stainless steel version). Since I cannot get both, I'll jump either way, assuming that the movement is the same. (The reference number is pretty close.)

How would a subscription work? I've never subscribed to a Watch before, and what would we do, and what would it cost? I haven't voted because I have no idea what a subscription scheme would involve.
