I would like to know from Mr. Torres if there will be a new stainless steel luxury sport watch with inhouse movement and sapphire caseback introduced in the near future? I hope you can get a response from Mr. Torres. Thank you for giving us the chance to ask these questions! Best, Mike

Alex, I have a few thoughts:- - What's the impact of the PP seal (e.g. a VC seal to come?) and the future of the Geneva Seal? - Can we have a platinum cased version of the Patrimony Contemporaine Auto with Date and Centre Seconds please! - Will there be a split seconds chrono any time soon? - How well known will VC be in 20 years time vs now? i.e. what news re advertising and brand image - Are VC buying important watches at auctions? - What are the plans re annual production numbers / targets - Why are VC still undervalued? Gary
I can answer one question regarding the Excellence Platine

Patrimony with date, there won't be one because there was already the manual wind version.

Hi Alex, Its been a while since I have posted but have been an avid lurker. Can you ask Mr Torres if there is any chance that the "Hour Loungers" Chronometre Royale would ever be made? I fell in love with this design years ago and still have not got it out of my head. Thanks john
Any chance on any Hour Lounge limited VC?! It was promised...(nt)

Vintage Questions
11/05/2009 - 19:42

Alex, I'd appreciate if you could raise the issue of VC's support for the vintage watch market:

  • Does VC have an official position regarding the place of vintage pieces in relation to the company's history?  This may also tie into earlier questions about a return to the "&" and the reintroduction of the cal. 1003 and 1120 (BTW, please pass on my heartfelt congratulations for achieving this wonderful reincarnation).
  • Do they consider supporting a vigorous and ethical trade in vintage V&C as also supporting the brand's image and thereby future sales?
  • To that end, will there be a change to the pricing strategy for Certificates of Authenticity?  Rumours have circulated for years that the price would come down.
  • Also, I'm curious about recent increases in the cost of vintage watch service which seems to have jumped some 30% over similar work last year.  This seems counter-intuitive when inflation is at record lows!

First thank him for the great job done. When I look at Vacheron Constantin for the 10 past years, a prestigious company which was maybe a bit dusty imho came back on the scene, with his own style and tremendous products. The hammer was the Quai de l'Ile. I know it received mixed feelings but this will change the image of VC forever. A lot of new design but always with identification of the Brand. So hard to do but perfectly done. Nice strucutration of the different product too. Great job again. -first question: will the structure of Vacheron constantin products will remain like this? Historiques/Patrimony/Overseas/Quai de l'île/Métiers d'arts/Cabinotiers Or is there anything planned? Imho another will be too much, and this is perfect like this. The overseas is for me the weak point, maybe a come back to 222 design could help. -second question When will the next version Quai de l'île will be released? -third question The métiers d'art is something completely specific and unique to Vacheron will there be any development on this special products? A new release for next year? -fourth question Some brand try to be independant of sub contractors, is it also the case of Vacheron? This strategy ca be interesting for the future but also risky because the know how and so the quality is at these sub contractors with experience. What is Mr Torres opinion about. Thanks for this opportunity Alex

Long time no see. You know my standing question.& Yes I'm very very 'nagging', but OTH you and I have had lunch and dinners together and I know you are a very sensitive, more than that, a man that has the great gift of listening! I also remeber how you appreciated the gift we brought 2005 I'm lost in history since school about 40 years ago... I also think I read all there is about Vacheron&Constantin, except 'Annales' by Constantin... Impossible to find Please bring the authentic name back and I will be your fan forever and the brand will rise to number one again Please my dear Charly compare with... I think that's something missing on last ones Cheers Doc

Hi Alex, I have two questions: 1. Why Vacheron Constantin doesn't use silicon parts (pallets, escapement wheel) in own movements ? 2. Calibre 1120 has a Gyromax balance. Will we maybe get to see Gyromax in other calibres sometime in the future ? Regards Mariusz

Hi Alex,  thanks for the oppty to ask Mr. Torres a few questions.  I have a couple of questions that I want to set up with a little background. 2 weeks ago, I heard that VC has been putting a concerted effort on reducing the time needed to prepare service/repair/restoration estimates and to do the actual maintenance/restoration work. On a recent watch that was sent in, the estimate was completed (just last week) much faster than previously (according to my personal experience), reduced from 2 months down to 3 weeks - which I think is great! But VC has told me that nothing can be done about scratches on the movement's bridges, since it would damage the Geneva Wave finishing and subsequently make the watch ineligible for a Certificate of Authenticity.  (New bridges for this vintage watch are no longer in stock).  I remember (perhaps incorrectly?) that VC has a policy and capability of being able to re-plate. refinish and/or custom remake any component for a watch that has ever been manufactured in order to bring it back to VC's standards or restoration.  I understand this can very well be very expensive, perhaps prohibitively so, but I think as a customer - I would like to make the decision on whether to proceed with such an expense.  (for additional perspective, I had the opportunity to show this watch to one of VC's master watchmakers before sending it to Geneva and he believed 2 of the bridges should be replaced, though he believed, incorrectly, that they would still be available in stock).  This leads me to consider that if bridges were in stock, would the official recommendation have been to replace them?  Since they are not in stock, then it's easier to leave things the way they are? My question is: In an effort to speed up service, is it possible that attention to detail and quality are being compromised? Also, to echo Dean's question above, how does VC view the vintage market?  Is it seen as a positive for the brand or a negative as it may cannibalize sales of new watches? Thanks for taking to the time go through this post to finally get to the questions. BR, Dan
What is your worst default that you are proud of? (nt)

.
with the malte relinquished, will there be a new collection to replace
11/08/2009 - 06:12
and also what is his stand for the historiques? is it also a pillar for future development or just an ad-hoc offing and limited in edition? thanks.
Hi Aaron, only the round malte models are abandoned, the tonneau ones
11/10/2009 - 15:19
remain.
Arfffff!
11/10/2009 - 16:47
... I thought there was still much to do with the round Malte case
Questions from a lurker...
11/09/2009 - 09:59
This is probably what was discussed here not long ago but I'd like to hear from the horse's mouth....  Will / does VC ever consider bidding for its own rare / vintage timepieces at auctions? Note that such participation in the auctions is NOT for supporting auction prices or investment but it's rather for the sake of bringing decent pieces back home in VC museum. After all, VC has the greatest fine watchmaking history so it would make perfect sense for VC to build even greater museum collection. If his answer is simply no-- then, why VC can't (or why doesn't VC want to) participate in the auctions? Any obstacle or drawback? Thanks and cheers, Teetann

A lot of the questions I would like to ask Charly have already been asked... there is one however I shall repeat, to reinforce the message: when will the HL get his Special Edition watch? Other questions I would like to ask Charly: 1) What are currently VC's key priorities? 2) What does Charly perceive as VC's weakest points? 3) If VC was not part of Richemont, what would Charly do differently? 4) What is Charly's favorite VC model produced since becoming CEO, and why? 5) Which watch does Charly wears most of the time? 6) Timeline on 4th pillar? 7) Does Charly looses sleep over/ feels responsible for 'killing' the Malte round case? (only joking, of course...) and of course... 8) Would Charly like to join us Loungers who will be at the SIHH VC HL dinner in January? I am formally inviting him... I am looking forward to this article Alex!!! Cheers, Francois
