Back from SIHH

A big big thanks to VC, Julien, Isabelle, Mr Torres and our Mr Ghotbi for their invitation and hospitality

The Quai de l’Ile is better in real; and my preference still for the simple date

I was also please to meet Radek, Kazumi, JB and some other VC aficionados

Yes, it was an unforgettable experience!

BIG thanks to the whole VC and HL team (Alex, Isabelle, Julien, Mr Bernaz and Mr Torres) for hosting such a perfect and memorable evening on Sunday and taking the time the following day to discuss the novelties...

It was easy to tell that the food had been prepared by 2-Michelin stars rated personel, and the wine was equally superb (especially the white wine... I could have drinked that one all night).

But what really made the night special was being able to finally meet a lot of my fellow Loungers (Alex, Mercator, JohnLy, JB, Kazumi, Radek, ... Lin, since you didn't mention me, I will return the favour... but I will say it was nice to speak to your wife ) and other WIS (Felipe, Walid, ...). Everybody was friendly and funny, and the conversations quite interesting. Probably a result of the fact that most already knew each other, the atmosphere was a lot more laid-back and relaxed than I would have expected. Truly a memorable night.

I agree with LN, the QdI (note to fellow Loungers - it was decided on Saturday that it is easier, and cooler, to call the new line "QdI") is even nicer in real life. I wasn't sure then, but know I think I also prefer the simple date...

I am looking forward to seeing the pictures from Alex...

Francois, what have you finally decided to do with your...

newly acquired and returned for service ref. 47212?

It's mine no more - it's a sad life :-( (nt)

Sorry François

I am still under the influence of what I saw; so I am still disconected

I was only joking Lin! ;-) (nt)

Thanks to everyone at VC and new friends from SIHH...
04/09/2008 - 18:26

I will not mention everybody's names as not to cause the dilemma...

First of all, thanks to Alex and VC for the invite to the dinner at the Maison: the company of you all was the first and most important experience to me from that night. I must say I enjoyed talking and spending time with you immensely. Sharing the same passion is a great platform for communication and friendship. I am very fortunate to have finally met you all in person. It must have also been the surroundings of the historical place as well as the food and beverages in no short supply that made the atmosphere so special. Last but not least, the sneak preview presentation of the Qdl was superbly made by Julien Marchenoir (thank you so much Julien for this great evening and sharing your knowledge). Also meeting and sharing a conversation with Mr Dominique Bernaz (Director of the Maison and the bespoke dept.) was an unforgettable experience.

Secondly, I have to tell you I made a very good contact with Kazumi. He and I clicked right on and spent a lot of time togehter roaming the streets and (not only watch) boutiques  of Geneva. Kazumi is a man of a great personality - family loving and caring man, a watch afficionado of far greater knowledge than mine as well as a man of a great sense of humor. Kazumi and I paid a short visit to the VC boutique on Monday morning right before SIHH. I am sure we will tell you all about it later on when Kazumi returns home from Switzerland - photographic documentation required and he's got most of the pictures taken on his camera. All I have to say is big thank you to Mr. Salvatore Latrofa - the director of the boutique. Please stay tuned for more news...

Now, to shortly sum up the VC's novelties. I know there were quite a few of them but (sorry to say) they are not even worth mentioning compared to the launch of the new Quai de l’Ile line. It is the kind of watch (line) that absolutely reflects all my expectations as to the VC as a finest watchmaker on the market. I instantly became a fan, not to mention I love the modern design on it. The pieces from the new collection are stunning. They impersonate a bridge between the heritage of Vacheron Constantin and its future undertakings. The concept behind Quai de l’Ile, the design and the whole package it delivers to its end user is an awesome milestone in the history of watchmaking. It definitely puts VC way ahead of any watch manucture in the world and others will have to follow suit.

What I find very special about  Quai de l’Ile is the personalization without having to pay a premium on it - like you have to do when ordering a bespoke model. What you get in the end is a watch with a very personal touch to it. You get involved in the process of assembly of the piece right from the beginning and it is yours forever. Plus all the extra things you get along the way: the passport and the special kit... And this is only the beginning, as Mr. Torress said during the official presentation at SIHH. This means the entire line will develop soon. New designs, new complications and new combinations and possibilities will be introduced shortly. That is extremely promising...

Other than that, I had a conversation with Mr. Torress on our very own special edition of the Hour Lounge VC watch. Mr. Torress is very open to the idea and said the project could be completed by the end of this year. Alex and I will follow down on that matter, promise.

As to SIHH, it is a very well organized and professionally executed watch fair. As I am not very much interested in other brands I just had a quick (4-hour, call it quick) tour of others' booths. I have to admit everything was top notch and level.

I am very happy to have had the chance to participate in that memorable event and want to thank again everyone involved. My deepest appreciation goes to Alex - thank you so much!!!

Just got back and wanted to say how much I enjoyed this trip. Meeting many of the loungers was a great experience. I was so surprised to find many of them so young but also so knowledable and passionate about their watches.

Our hosts wre incredibly gracious with their time and knowledge and cannot thank them enough. Alex you stood out as being one of the most gracious of them all...I cannot thank you enough. Vacheron should be very proud of their team, Juan Carlos Torres, Christian , Julien, Isabelle treated us as old friends and made the trip a memory that will last me a loooooong time.

The many loungers that I met were great to be around and so nice now to put a face to a name.

The Qdi was definately the hit of the show. Has the blending of tradtion and modern and has a certain savoir faire and have no doubt that this will be a trend that many other watch companies will follow, but we must remember it began at Vacheron.

It was great to see everyone

For me the best part of SIHH aren't the watches but meeting my fellow collector friends. OK, so the watches help too :)
