A beauty : the Platinum Mercator

Thanks to the De Macedo shop in Paris, I had the opportunity to see and shoot a stunning platinum Mercator.

Alex already explained the history of the Mercator line :

You can easily understand that this watch is very rare as only around 500 Mercator were produced between 1994 and 2004. This one was produced for the American market.

It features a beautiful enamel dial and the Mercator time display system based on two retrograde hands.

We can spend hours watching the finishings and details of the stunning enamel dial :

The caliber is like for all the Mercator, the great VC 1120. Designed and created by JLC (JLC 920) but never used by them (but used by VC, AP and PP), the VC 1120 is an high quality automatic caliber. Vacheron did the finishings and of course adapted it to the double retrograde system. The caliber is easily recognizable thanks to its rotor.

This watch is of course a masterpiece. The size of the case (36mm) is perfect due to the elegance and the delicacy of the watch. Its style is very "Vacheron" : a perfect combo of an artistic dial and an original time display.

We can compare it to the YG Mercator : same style, same finishings but two very different watches :

The Mercator line is for me one of the most interesting lines from Vacheron.

Thanks a lot to Jean-Marc and Christophe who gave me this opportunity !

garde in the early 90s when it was launched!

Thanks FX

surprisingly I prefer the non enamel model you show the YG dial gives

the impression of an aged parchement!

What a magnificent watch

I am amazed whenever I see the enamel dials by Vacheron. The level of detail and colors makes you want to stare at them...definately difficult to drive your car with this one on your wrist.

often polychrome enamel dials can look gaudy and baroque but here

it is subtle and pleasant. Hats off to the VC team for such a gorgeous watch and thank you Foversta for the scans.

Don't need to say what are my feelings for this watch :-) (nt)

for the collection. It is not only stunning, breathtaking--seriously, but it is one of the few watches with California on the face! Really enjoyed the report. Best, Tim

A wonderful watch, I can tell you!

Nice colors, and a not so common complication: I like to hear the hands coming back to 1:00 and 0 min
