A bet is a bet,

and you just got win!

This happened about 17 years ago.
I was visiting my friend, we known each other since we were just two nasty kids,10 years old,
and happened to se this clock on a shelf in one of his bookshelves at his office.

A bet is a bet,

Me: 'Where did you get that from?'
He: 'From an antique shop down the street, but it doesn't work.'
Me: 'Why not'
He: 'Don't know ( he is absolute untechnical ) and the shop keeper said it was some grave fault of the movement,
that's why I could negotiate such a good price!' Followed by a pleasant smile.
Me: 'That must go and fix, if you just leave it to Mr X, it will cost you some money of course...'
He: 'Why don't you fix it, you who are an 'expert' in watches? If you can get it to work,
you can have it for a bottle of scotch!' Followed by a contentedly smileA bet is a bet,
Me: 'OK it's a deal, and if I lose you'll get 2 bottles of scotch!'

A month later I had a visit to his town and the clock with me. I placed it on his desk and he could see
that it was showing the right time and that it was ticking loud and clear!

A bet is a bet,

He: 'What the h-ll, you done it! Give me the whiskey! But please tell me what it costed.'
Me: 'A negligible amount, just some adjustment!'
He: 'Let me have a look!'
He opened the back of the clock and the expression of his face was worth a fortune to me A bet is a bet,

A bet is a bet,

BTW, the watchmaker I had to do the 'work', wasn't too happy, but he got the old movement as fee and that helped a bit!
Still I saw that he wondered about that Doctor's mental health... A bet is a bet,

Cheers and a nice weekend to you all A bet is a bet,

Doc
you devil!

Doc, I'm shocked .  It will take an entire bottle of Laphroaig to forget this!
Mats, I don't ever want to enter a bet with you casually :-)

Both clever and devious! A truly dangerous man.  Never enter a bet with Doc when scotch is on the line. BR, Dan

Oh boy, what a story here. I was hoping to learn about this museum grade movement found within this clock that was worh a fortune . Now to learn I am dealing with a quartz movement. Gee I don't know who deserves the Scotch now :)). Thanks for the story Doc. Best regards, Matt

I can only see the fun in it! My pal got his wiskey and I the clock, but most important, I won the bet! We both had a good laugh than and many times after. It's on a shelf in the living oom, and no one  else, except you kno, could think of the secret inside! BTW, it keeps perfect time Cheers Doc
We were winding you up, Doc................
