Congratulations, KCC

Its such a beautiful watch!

I know I differ from many but I do prefer it to the older model (Les Historiques).

Wear it in good health. You can also wear the reverse side out to see how gorgeous the movement is

Thanks,  When I first started the chrono, I did not realize that the min. hand was digital and I though it was not working correctly when it did not advance along with the second hand.  I was relieved after the first min.  I was told the dial is hand cut; is this correct?

I am a fan of the Lemania movement, so I thought I should pick one up before it disappears.

Re: Re: Re: Brought home today

Yes, the dial is "cut" using a rose engine. The term is guilloché. A pattern is designed and a "guillocheur" manipulates the machine which looks lika lathe and cuts the pattern. It is a delicate and very labour-intensive job. But the result as you can see is very impressive.

You can browse around this site or visit VC's home page to look at several other watches. Many different and exquisite patterns exist.

The technique is quite old and requires long training and a real artistic talent.

There is a recent post of the LA/Beverly Hills Vacheron show with pictures of this process.

I also posted some pics quite a while ago of the same master guillocheur doing his work when VC had a show in New York City.

Here are a few pics which show the process

Hi Alex,

I tried to watch the movie, but it appears that both versions are in french.  Could you check and replace one with English?

Thanks, JB.  These pictures remind me of a time in my life about 25 years ago when I worked as a tool and die maiker before fininsing school.

Congratulations! (nt)

Thank LN.  I am really enjoying it.

Amazing in two ways!
03/09/2008 - 00:10

Amazing beautiful chronograph!

The other amazing  thing is, that I'm one of the persons with the same taste as Joseph,

I also thinks this is greater than the Historiques!

The only competitior is Lange Chronograph,

but that's not a VC

Enjoy it in health !

Thanks, Doc.  I have never seen the Historiques version in the metal, but I am definitely impressed with this one on many levels.

Completely agree with you Doc! (nt)

Congratulations KCC!
03/09/2008 - 01:10

It's a beautiful watch, even if I prefer it in white color.

The chrono Les Historiques is more linked to the former 4178 with its tear drop lugs, which I like a lot too.

In fact, 2 nice chrono from VC.

Thanks, anka.  I also have a WG VC which I like very much, but I really could not afford the Plt. version at this time and I think I agree with Alex that the RG really seems to bring out the design in the dial.

Congratulations!! A real beauty!!
03/09/2008 - 01:50

Congratulations KCC!!

That is a real beauty.  The Excellence Platine is of course a stunner,  but I must admit, I like the RG model just as much (I am a sucker for RG - and the warmth it exudes).  The contrast between the RG case just enhances the beauty of the guilloche dial.

Now all you need is a better camera!...unless your hands were still trembling from the excitement...  Just kidding, of course!!

Enjoy it in good health!

(Totally green with envy)

Thanks to all for your kind words

I think these are better pictures; I tried to take your advice about steady hands.  The close up feature on my camera is limited

Great Choice....

Congratulations on your acquisition. Please wear this beauty in the very best of health. Cheers!

Thanks Teetan,  I am doing just that.

Malte Chrono RG - awesome watch - congrats!
03/09/2008 - 09:56

I agree with Doc and Joseph: to me Malte Chrono is far better looking than Historique. It is far better sized and proportioned...

May it only time happy moments!

Thanks Radek,  I was a little concerned about it being 41.5 mm, but when I tried it on, it looked just right. we're cooking! Nice shots. Keep 'em coming..(nt)

I think a better camera would help a lot.

A malte chrono!

Wear it with joy...Congrats!

Thank Rei.  I have been doing this all today.

Congrats KCC...
03/09/2008 - 10:14

... a classic!! Really nice (more I see it in pink gold, more I love it!).

Enjoy your new watch! :)

Thanks Alex.  I think you are correct about this combination.  Also, I wanted you to know that VC sent me a complimentary Certificate of Authentication for my 47400 for pointing out the jewel count discrepancy in the website.

VC is really a world class act in my opinion.  I also personally thank you for all your involvement.

03/11/2008 - 13:28

...but it's shame that photos are so unfocussed! re-try!

Congrats KCC!!!
03/12/2008 - 20:55

You have gotten your hands on one of my top 3 VCs!!!

You did the right thing buying it before VC stops producing the round Malte case... This is a pure classic, one for the ages!!!

And although I usually prefer WG, in this case the RG looks stunning!

Congrats, wear it in good health!

Re: Congrats KCC!!!
03/13/2008 - 01:46

Thanks, I know what your #1 is, so what is the third one?

Re: Re: Congrats KCC!!!
03/13/2008 - 14:01

The Malte Tonneau Tourbillon (actually my no2)

Right up with the Malte Chrono, I would say the Malte Perpetual Calendar Retrograde, and the Jubliee 1755 complete my top 5...
