Cant find info on markerless 222 dial

Hello,

Im new to the forum, Ive been collecting watches  for several years and just recently I came across a VC for the fiest time. Its a 222 in jumbo size in SS/18k combination. Im really interested in the watch but I cant seem to find anything similar. Im wondering what are your thoughts. Rare dial/hand configuration or put together?

Thanks in advance for your input

I've never seen a 222 with dial and hands like this

I would be suspicious about them.

Welcome to THL

the hands are also incorrect. Possible that the dial and hands come from another watch

Thanks you Mr Shao and Mr Gothbi for your input. I was able to take better picture for your assessment.

Ive spent a great deal of time online and could not find another VC with the same dial. Also, the writting and position seem identical to every other 222 except for the painted date frame. Would it be possible that this is a custom ordered dial? This watch was owned by an AD of the brand in the 80's.

I was able to locate the hands, which are identical to one of the executions of the Classique, the one with roman numerals.

Thanks again for your time and opinions on this matter.

Cant find info on markerless 222 dial

Dear sirs,

I was hoping to provide the requested info, unfortunately the watchmaker was not able to open the case. He tried using a suction cup because he didnt want to leave toolmarks on the bezel, with no avail. This was in the authorized dealer's service center, although they are not an authorized service center for VC themselves. I should note there are no authorized service centers in my country at this time.

At this point my only option would be purchasing the watch and taking it to the US for service. The watch is running but stops after a few minutes so a proper service is due. I could take it in for a complete overhaul and have the extracts of the archives ordered at the time. I understand that  normally one should walk away from suspicious watches but  I really like the look of the dial and could negotiate the price due to the watch not working properly. Is there a ball park range as to what I can expect to pay to have the 222 serviced?

Thanks for your input

We do not discuss prices on THL

That being said, it is totally up to you on how much it's worth, especially since you like the dial.

I think to most of the people on THL, the dial is too suspicious.  For me personally, the watch is worth very little with that dial and a non-working movement.

As Alex requested, have the seller give you both the case and movement serial numbers

I personally do not believe it is original, but will be happily surprised if it can be confirmed by VC to be a unique piece.

But VC needs both those numbers in order to check, anything else would be conjecture.

I have arranged to have the watch checked next Monday. Where will the case serial be located?

Also, in the "222" review in this forum, I can see the watch is opened by unscewing the notched bezel, why does it also seem to have a caseback? And does it need to be removed in the process?

Normally watches that open from the front have no caseback. I will have the watched checked by a professional watchmaker but I want to make sure I can provide as much information regarding this operation.

Regards

222 is a monoblock design, so the back of the case is not removable

But there is still information engraved on the inside of the unremovable case back that can only be seen/photographed after removing the movement.
