Christmas in July

I asked earlier for help in narrowing down my search for a VC. I decided that I want a cal 1003 model with a sapphire back, but they're either discontinued (Patrimony extra thin) or not yet available and a bit pricey (Historique 1955). My AD looked for remaining stock of the extra thin with help from VC headquarters, but with no success. Since cal 1003 isn't being discontinued, I decided to look for something to complement it, and save the cal 1003 acquisition for a later date.

I figured that an automatic with date would be a nice complement, and based on pictures, I really liked the Patrimony Traditionelle (87172) in white gold. I was thrilled to find a gently preowned one with all original boxes, papers, etc. from a local collector that fit my budget. I met the seller for lunch today, where I was presented with all the original packaging (cardboard box, white paper open-sided box, outer box, some foam, inner box). Working my way through all that, I finally got to see a VC in person for the first time. My VC, to be exact. As much as VCs had been hyped up (coworker: "Just get a VC." forum user Tourbillon: "Whatever you choose you can't go wrong."), and as gorgeous as my watch was when it showed up in my dream a few nights ago, it was even more stunning than I had imagined. I'm absolutely in love. It's like Christmas in July!

Before this, I had an Omega Seamaster that my uncle bought me. I'll still wear that on certain occasions (say, a day at the beach). But since the VC is the first watch that I ever bought myself, I plan to wear it on most days. I can't help but stare at it every few minutes. It's gorgeous. I definitely see more VCs in my future.
A truly beautiful watch - enjoy! nt

Hi Jason, You made a great choice, enjoy the watch and please post pictures/scans of it when you can! I've learned that VCs are like drugs, women and chocolate - once you've experienced your first one, you always want more Best Regards, Dan P.S.  a belated welcome to the Lounge!
LOL Dan that's a great comparaison :-) (nt)

I might have the order mixed up a bit, but the general roadmap is in place already. Next: A cal 1003-based watch, preferably yellow gold with sapphire caseback. I have picked out a potential event in 2011 that may justify this purchase. Next: A dressy chronograph that times at least 6 hours. The seller of my watch didn't have a chance to wear it much because he usually needs a chronograph to time consulting hours. (For our lunch together, he wore a gorgeous PP chronograph with annual calendar in platinum.) I can see myself needing one for that reason someday. Next: Something sporty, perhaps in titanium. Next: Now things start getting more nebulous. At some point, I would like something in platinum. And something skeletonized. If I can ever afford it, a minute repeater would be nice. So yes, I plan to be dreaming of my next VC for a long time to come!
A titanium OS chronograph can let you kill 2 birds w/1 stone :-) (nt)
