Chronomètre Royal, dials

Alex,

I was wondering about the different lay-outs of V&C dials and especially about my Chronomètre Royal ref. 6111. I would love to get some explanations about the way the maltese cross is displayed and the the Vacheron & Constantin brand lay-out.

funny you bring this up as I was talking about this with the folks at

the archives dept, not specifically about  Chronometre Royals but watch dials in general and there is no specific reason for  having the cross at 6 other than the fact that the client wanted it there or the dial maker suggested it etc....

Berny, another example of the cross at 6 o'clock may be found as lot 153 in the Quarter Millennium catalog; a Ref. 4822 Cioccolatone from 1954. May I also ask if the dial finish of your 6111 is unique?  Black dials are very rare already and I can't recall another with that gold sparkle cool.

Thank you, Dean, for the great piece of information. As to the uniqueness of the black dial on a ref 6111: i must admit: I do not know.
