Ciao for Now

The tribe is leaving tomorrow for an extended auto vacation into the Western portions of good 'ole USA.  Its time for our semi-sporadic automobile racing adventures on the high desert roads of Nevada.  In the past my dear wife as navigator and I as pilot wouldn't take it all too seriously, but this year I've recruited the son-in-law as navigator so I have to ramp up my game a bit surprise.  For his part, he has bonded appropriately with the car by lovingly applying several coats of wax after a chamois wash and clay bar application.  He has also demonstrated good judgement by providing his technical advisor (me) with beer continuously.  Lastly, he has acquired the appropriate attire...

Ciao for Now

The event is actually a road rallye, not a race, with only one car leaving the starting line at a time.  The object is to achieve your desired average speed for the entire course, regardless of the terrain or weather.  Our target is to travel exactly 90 miles in exactly 41 minutes, 32.31 seconds, which requires an average of 130mph.  Class winners are usually within 10ths even 100ths of a second!  My car has nearly reached Classic status but unfortunately that won't get me any breaks from the kidding about the family sedan, aka bringing a knife to a gun fight, but we manage to hold our own...

Ciao for Now

Besides the big open spaces and blue skies of Nevada, we really enjoy the racing culture.  Its a four day event with technical inspections, track  sessions, practice runs, top-speed contests, car shows, parades and many happy hours talking with very warm people.

Ciao for Now

Before and after we are spending some time exploring the small towns and rural byways of Wyoming, Utah and Nevada.  I'm looking forward to tasting the pies and beer at each stop.  Hope to have some stories to share upon our return smiley.

Good luck!
