A couple of new, little, toys

I just got back to the US and had a couple of new items waiting for me:

A new camera, the Sony NEX-F3.  It is definitely not a "professional" camera...but I am far from a professional photographer cheeky.  I got a macro lens for it, which allows a novice to take a few decent picures.

(all pictures in this post taken in my living room with no other equipment, i.e. no lighting, light box, tripod, etc.  - just point, focus, and shoot)

The other small item waiting for me was a red, sharkskin, strap for my T-Bird.  I like it because it really turns it into a great, casual, watch that can be worn all year long.  Not necessarily "funky", but definitely fun.  smiley

I'm glad to see another person from Greater China here, :-) I used to have a burgundy, crocodile, strap on it - which looked great, but didn't do too well in the hot, humid, weather of Beijing and Shanghai.  Something you have an intimate knowledge of, coming  from Hong Kong wink The red also lightens up the watch, not a serious - which is just what I needed in order for it to go into the watch wearing rotation (I hate having a watch but not using it). Best Regards, Dan P.S.  you have taken some great pictures of your Toledo 1952 yes
Good things to come home to:-) the red strap is a killer!

Nice to have those waiting for you at home

Both are looking great. So, I have never really investigated shark skin straps, but it sounds like they are good for even the most humid climates?  Hmmmmmm...... Best regards, Robert
Something I learned about Sharkskin straps...
09/26/2012 - 18:36
they are not all waterproof!  While the sharkskin itself is waterproof; the padding, stiching, glue, etc. (if used) may not be waterproof. When looking for a sharkskin strap to wear in humid or wet conditions, make sure it is advertised/promoted as waterproof. But this one on the T-Bird is waterproof...which makes it a great summer watch alternative to the OS, laugh BR, Dan
Waddya think, a sharkskin for the 1955????
09/26/2012 - 20:21
Kidding.crying
I'd have to drive down to Philly and take the 1955 away from you
09/26/2012 - 21:43
Not Kidding, I'm in central Jersey and can make it happen. ;-). Hee hee hee! BR, Dan
I had no idea you are that close...

Pretty flash, Dan!

Nice styling with your T-Bird heart.  Did you put a VC buckle on?
Thanks Dean, some additional flash to my blingiest watch made sense
09/26/2012 - 18:45
at least to me it does.  You know how I prefer simple watches and this T-Bird now really stands out in my collection, making it scream to be worn more often.  I am almost always in casual/business casual (i.e. polo shirts, etc.) and this just works.  :-) I don't have a VC bucke for it yet, because the strap goes from 20mm at the lugs to 18mm at the buckle.  I currently don't have any VC buckles/clasps that big (mine are all 16mm and 14mm), but will be checking with VC (and Alex blush) to see how I can get one, maybe for January? BR, Dan P.S.  BEAUTIFUL PT. PW that you showed us recently!!!
The new camera does the trick!

Dan, You've posted some good shotsyes. Love the eye-catching strap on your T Bird too!  I wouldn't be surprised if we see some pretty good photographs during the coming weeks. You've made a grand and encouraging start! Tony

hi dan , didn't know u also own the t-bird..
09/27/2012 - 16:37
a wonderful piece and it looks great on you. are u aware u can use the curve lugs pins on this watch so the leather looks more integrated with the case? smiley
Thanks Aaron!

I'm sure you recognize my T-Bird, it comes from a good, mutual, friend of ours in the Great White North of Canada wink I had a tough enough time finding a shark skin strap that I liked, I couldn't find any with curved ends.  If I use a crocodile strap, I would definitely get one from VC with the curved ends. Thanks, Dan
I love the sharskin strap!
09/28/2012 - 02:28
I would be hard pressed to think of many VC's that would look great on a sharkskin strap, but this is one of them! This is my annual plea to the designers at VC to bring the turnograph back in the Historiques collection. Bill
I hope that day comes :-)
09/28/2012 - 07:28
A Turn-O-Graph in the Historiques collection would be very nice.  Since VC only made one model with a rotating bezel, I wonder if VC would create a Historiques version for it (as opposed to models that may have more, traditional, VC DNA)? Glad you liked the strap/watch combo! BR, Dan
Your new camera breathed in some fresh air into your pieces...
