Cuff links

You may recall that a few months ago, I uploaded some pics of cuff links (boutons) that I had made in white gold with the VC logo.
Here's one photo:
Cuff links

Well, I really wated a set in rose gold. So with some design changes to make it look a bit more like a tonneau watch case, including a stepped bezel effect and a slight curvature to the face... and a lot of work, here they are. Rose gold and enamel don't work together that well and it was very difficult to get them to stick together. But success was achieved. They are 18k RG including the stems.

Gorgeous; and so cool to boot.....

Did you make those or have them made?  It sounds like you did it yourself!  If you did you are a better man that I. All the best and Merry Christmas, Tom

Thanks for the kind words, Tom. No, I had them made. I provided the plans but I don't have the skill, knowledge or resources to do it. For the jeweller that did the custom work, it was a real learning experience so although they were expensive, he didn't charge me for his actual time spent. Otherwise the cost would have been horrendous. But he's happy and I'm happy. All the best to you and yours. Have a great Christmas. Joseph
Very nice!

I've often complained that VC does not make a nice set of cufflinks to compliment their beautiful watches.  I hear that at their boutique they may have some available but they do not incorporate the Maltese Cross.  Those rose gold links you had made are really handsome.  VC could take a few lessons from AP and PP, as both offer some nice cufflinks to compliment their watches.   I'd love to have a set that matched the asymetric shape of my 1972, the stepped lugs of my Carree, or maybe the Maltese Cross.  Maybe someday I'll have a set made.  Great job and thanks for sharing. Best regards, Dino

Thanks Dino, VC does indeed have some nice cuff links in their boutique in Geneva (perhaps elsewhere too). They do match the watches. For instance they have a tonneau shaped set with diamonds around the perimeter to match the Malte Tourbillon and another set to match the gold OS Chrono with the shape resembling the OS bezel. There are others as well but I don't recall them. But you are right. I did not see any with the maltese cross motif.  I'll have another look when I'm in Geneva next month. Regards and a Merry Christmas! Joseph

Hi Joseph,

Thanks for the info.  I had no idea that they were making cufflinks in a tonneau shape or to match an OS bezel.  Last I had heard, they made cufflinks but rather plain and they didn't specifically go with anything in the collection.  I'd love them to make something to match my 1972 case, but I think I'd have to have someone make a pair for me to do that, just as you did.  Still, I'd love to see VC make some links using the Maltese Cross.  Actually, VC could learn something from your design efforts.  Great job Joseph and thanks for sharing some pix with us.

Best regards,

never wears a tie without a French cuffed shirt", or something like that. Maybe it's our age, but without "buttons", we're not really dressed-up. These really are you, as they should be for a true Vacheron collector. As with your wonderful timepeices, wear these in good health. Best, Miki

Thank you Mats, That buckle in your photo was actually my inspiration. That's how I got the idea for the design..that and my tonneau tourbillon. I'll have mine with me and we can compare Best wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year, my friend! Joseph
Thinking of you and looking forwards :-)

Just a quick question on the Malte Tourbillon case: how big is it compared to your Malte Tonneau Dual Time (I believe it to be bigger than MTDT)? Is it closer to Malte Tonneau Chronograph (Royal Eagle) in size? Thanks Radek
Re: Beautiful picture, Joseph!

Hi Radek, Thank you for the compliment. Regarding your question: The tourbillon case is definitely bigger but it looks like the reason is that the bezel is wider all the way around. Without actually measuring it, however the dials themselves look to be about the same size. They may be cut from the same template, infact. I can't comment on the Royal Eagle Chrono size but I know that the tonneau DT is also called the Royal Eagle DT. However, from my poor recollections having seen the RE Chrono in store windows, I thought it was closer in size to the tourbillon. But I'm not really certain. Merry Chrustmas and a very Happy new Year! Joseph
Very Nice Jospeh, do not hesitate to wear them next time our path
