Ding, ding ding "Hey stop playing with that minute repeater"

In 1992, Vacheron Constantin created a limited edition of 200 caliber 1755 extra flat minute repeater movements based on the ones they used in the 40s-50s.

Used in different models either in skeleton or full dial, with or without perpetual calendar the last 30 movements were put aside and used in the Malte Perpetual Calendar Minute Repeater launched in 2006.

I just love this watch. the 40mm rose gold case is very masculine, the guillochage is superbe. The Lapis lazuli moonphase is spectacular and the icing on the cake is the amazing sound of the minute repeater.

The question as to what is a repeater for I once read the following on the net:

A repeater serves no other reason than for the extensive traveller to know if he is home or not:

If you wake up in the middle of the night and are wondering where you are you launch the repeater and if you hear a sweet voice asking "oh what a delightful sound, what is it?" You know you are travelling and at a hotel. On the contrary if an aggressive voice responds "stop playing with your watch, go to bed" you know that you're at home" Ding, ding ding "Hey stop playing with that minute repeater"

Its very reminiscent of the VC pocket watch repeater movements from about 1890-1920, just slightly miniturized. Altough I'm sure the metallurgy and finishing is much improved. Joseph
A beautiful watch

The classic slim VC repeater and the skeletonised tonneau tourbillon are my two favourite VC watches. This repeater with QP comes in a close second. - SJX

The "classic repeater" you covet wouldn't look like Thomas'? That one sure does it for me. Miki
