A few pics of the Malte Chronograph Edition Dubail

As you know, Dubail is a famous AD in Paris which gets on a regular basis LE from several brands. This time, Vacheron and Dubails have created a LE of 30 watches of the WG Malte Chronograph with I would say a "sportive" decoration.

I was a bit afraid when I read the press release. I saw the watch yesterday and I'm more convinced now by the combo black dial & red hands. Of course, this sportive style is a bit strange in the context of the Malte Chronograph. But at least, it brings something different.

For me the most impressive part of the watch is the black dial. Its finishings are great and it's a pleasure to see the different shades of light on it.

But as you know very well the Malte Chronograph, I don't think I need to add more comments, so here are the pics !

VC have managed tp add a sporty touch to a dress chrono and

the final result is gorgeous.
this watch has 2 elements I don't like but surprisingly
10/25/2009 - 11:58
the mix works! I don't like white metals and black dials (other than on sports watches ie Panerai, Rolex...) and I don't like red on a dial but here the mix works for me and find that VC did a good job here.
Taste is taste....

Everyone has it's own. Not my cup of tea, reminds me to much of this I once had... Doc
Malte Chronograph Edition Dubail, a controversial piece...

Since I have been a big fan VC's LE pieces and have had Malte Chrono LE I should be naturally quite interesetd in the piece at hand. Unfortunately, this exact edition of Malte Chrono just doesn't do it for me... It reminds me of a US Overseas LE too much. The color combo plays well in a sports watch. It doesn't work well in the elegant Chrono with a light sporty touch... It is just trying too hard IMO...
Thanks for the nice photos Francois-Xavier

This color scheme worked really well for the Overseas US LE, but I think that it is too sporty for the elegant Malte Chrono. I feel that the disconnect between the color scheme and the style of the watch is strong, and the end result is a little bit strange, maybe awkward...  That is not to say that I do not like the watch - I do find it lovely. But I MUCH prefer the previous Malte chrono versions (the nicest being the Excellence Platine version). The black dial does look good - I would have like to see a 'traditional' RG version of the Malte Chrono with black dial, and a dark chocolate brown strap (like the Malte QP Retrograde Russia LE). Cheers, Francois
