A few shots of my 47212

I have not yet bought a macro lense, but while I was away on vacations my little sister was kind enough to lend me hers. I couldn't resist taking a few shots of my babyA few shots of my 47212A few shots of my 47212...

The pics are much better than the first ones I took - so having the right tools does make a big difference. During this holiday I have however realised that I need some serious photography (as well as golfA few shots of my 47212) lessons... Deniz, if you are interested...

I wanted to photograph my watch against the rock, I thought it would make a good background

A few shots of my 47212

But I was able to take only 2 shots - the thought of having my baby standing on a hard surface was to much I could handle... I felt a lot better once it was resting on a t-shirt...
I really like the fact that the dial catches the light in so many different ways...

Not that I am in any way responsible for their beauty, but I feel like a proud parent

the dial and the moonphase are drop dead gorgeous. You are one hell

C'est a merveille, Francois! Really gorgeous photos! The moonphase is really outstanding. Je suis tres heureux d'apprendre que tout allait s'arranger avec cette montre. Wear it in excellent health! Joseph

Overwhelming, marvalous, outstanding! Other than those adjectives, just another watch-Yea sure! Having never seen one in person nor never seen this quality scan, this was a delightful experience. I always understood the beauty of the movement but that gorgeous face and moonphase, WOW!!! As always wear in good health. And please no more scans like that until I recover from these. Miki
Thank you Miki!

I'd have to agree with all the adjectives you've used!
What an amazing piece it is !

Thanks for sharing! I really like the moophase. This had been nicely captured by Deniz with the 47112:http://www.phase-de-lune.net/qp_chrono/qp_chrono.htm Wear it in good health, François!

Thanks Kramer! Thanks for posting the link, even though I already have it as one of my “Favorites”- I have been looking at Deniz's pictures on a weekly basis for over a year now…  My pictures are nowhere near as good as Deniz’s (nor JB’s or Alex’s…), he’s in a class of his own. In fact, I wish he’d be able to photograph mine… Cheers, Francois
Beautiful watch on both sides!!

Thanks for the pics, Francois. I am glad that love is sweeter the second time around. Wear it in good health! Best regards, Kazumi

My Dear Kazumi,

Love is indeed sweeter the 2nd time around… And everyday the love keeps on growing, which amazes me - I was afraid my passion might die down with time, but it has really been the opposite! Every time I look at the moonphase, my worries fly away and my heart feels lighter...

A beautiful piece and I am most definitely not talking about the Hublot. Love the movement shots.  Thanks for sharing the pics with us. Enjoy your wonderful watch and enjoy it for many years to come. Duncan

Although I am sad to hear that you don’t like my Hublot… After seeing you almost accept Alex’s 2 “Grandes Complications”, I was hoping you’d consider trading my Ice for that lovely VC tonneau of yours…
As tempting as that offer may be...
08/20/2008 - 02:03
I think I will have to pass.  Wouldn't want you to have to deal with the potential tax issues due to the probable difference in values. While I am admittedly not a Hublot fan, I must say that you have some nice variety with those 2 pieces and certainly something to wear for a variety of occasions.  Enjoy and wear both in the best of health. Cheers, Duncan
I love your baby!

Absolutely Beautiful 47212

Francois, I'm so very happy that this second watch is everything you want it to be!  It is a wonderfully representative timepiece for VC.  Enjoy it!
Thanks Dan, I truly hope

that you are surviving well the Olympics (hold on, just a few more days of crazyness…)
Thanks Francois...

tomorrow will be better as I can drive (I can drive on odd days since my car's license plate number ends in an odd number).  It should get better in a week, but the traffic rules will still be in effect for another month since the Paralympics will be held right after the Olympics.  Don't worry, this will happen to you too in 4 years as it is a standard practice. Best Regards, Dan

I'll take that as a compliment...

You know, I have learned from the best Master Teaser
Francois, I still can't believe the way it turned out with the watch..
08/19/2008 - 12:30
for you, can you? You've come a full circle  And it's such a great piece - from what I remember from our HL dinner at the Maison (although it is not the same waqtch item). ENJOY!!! Makes me wonder what your next VC aquisition will be... Since it doesn't get any better
You are correct, I am still in dreamland
08/19/2008 - 23:22
…and I’m enjoying every second of it – my wife is starting to get jealous… As you say, for me it doesn’t get any better than this – this is still my Ultimate Grail Watch. And I sincerely hope that it will stay this way. But that will not stop me from wanting to expand the family… Next VC? Tough question… If I had any funds left, it would be the Malte Tonneau Tourbillon. Absolutely Amazing piece.  Being more realistic, I think I would like it to be either a QdI (the simple time/date model, although I’m looking forward to potential new models for 2009), or an OS with strap (I really like your US LE).   But it migh also be from another brand... A Roger Smith Serie 2 would be wonderful (but again, realistically too expansive). I have had my eyes on the Breguet Marin Chrono (white gold) for a while, and I must say that it is a stunnign piece in the flesh... Cheers, Francois
Beautiful pictures of an incredible watch
08/19/2008 - 14:13
So good to see how it all turned out. The dial is very difficult to photograph but you did very well. Love the close up of the dial, you can see the texture of the platinum, great detail Thanks for sharing them with us.  Is it getting much wrist time? John
Re: Beautiful pictures of an incredible watch
08/19/2008 - 23:24
Thank you Mr. L, especially re the comments on my photographing skills… (you've just boosted my ego, and are now my new best friend ). I agree with you that it is hard to photograph the dial and bring it to life, the way I see it every day.  Have I been wearing it a lot? Every day since getting it, apart from the times I was afraid it might get hurt: 1 or 2 days during the weekend (I was expecting to move some boxes, and wanted to avoid the scratches…), and during my vacations in Canada (I was on a little island in the middle of nature, not the place for such a civilised beauty) Same question back to you, fellow 47212 owner: have often has my baby's brother seen wrist action? Cheers, Francois
Re: Re: Beautiful pictures of an incredible watch
08/19/2008 - 23:38
Well, it has never seen any wrist time. Unfortunately when I received the watch I spent time just admiring it. Then decided it was time to set the dates and break it in. When I started to adjust the moon phase the pusher was frozen and wouldn't move. Then tried to set the day and the pusher went in but the day wheel would not change. So the watch still sits in Geneva waiting to be repaired and me in New Hampshire waiting to wear it. I have called the AD several times and they call Vacheron USA but nothing comes back from geneva....very frustrating.
This is HORRIBLE!!!
08/20/2008 - 13:06
Especially considering that you received yours before mine... I can understand your frustration and feel your pain... Considering VC's reputation and the price tag of the 47212, it is quite disappointing to see that 2 out of 3 pieces that I am aware of have had technical problems.  Isn't there any QC at VC?? And after-sales service should be A PRIORITY for VC and other luxury brands. It's already bad if the product delivered is malfunctioning, but at least its repair should take precedence over the delivery of new pieces.  Cars are a lot more complicated than watches, yet I've never heard of a Mercedes that didn't start when delivered; and if there's any problems with it, usually within 2 weeks it's taken care of - why can't it be the same for watches??? Hopefully VC is aware of this problem and is doing something to improve the situation.
Re: This is HORRIBLE!!!
08/20/2008 - 15:04
Thanks Francois for your post. I agree with you about the repairs taking precedence over new shipments. I assume there's a separate department for repairs. I would be happy just to get feedback that yes they received the watch and it will be returned on or before XXXX date. Without that I am left in limbo and feel that I need to call them every couple of weeks (sqeaky wheel gets grease concept).  I am glad to hear you are loving yours, they are beautiful watches.
John, the fact that you can't even get VC to give you a simple date
08/20/2008 - 17:30
is absolutely ridiculous You are a much calmer and wiser person than I am - in your case I would have gone mad after the 2nd time... If you want, I'll give them a call It is indeed a beautiful watch, but it would look much better on your wrist than in Geneva...
You are indeed a very good friend...thank you
08/21/2008 - 03:31

and agree about the date and looking better on my wrist than on a work bench. Hopefully we can all get together sometime for a Lounge anniv. party

Wonderful watch....

I wonder how many other owners of an EP watch also have a Big Bang in the collection... I know that I, as well as Alex, suck at golf. We could get together sometime talk about watches for four hours while swinging the clubs and putting in a combined score of 400 or so. Bill
Thanks Bill, the golf game is a great idea...
08/20/2008 - 12:52

I'm happy to see that we're about the same level - based on my usual score, 400 sounds about right for the 3 of us I would however say 6 hours instead of 4 (can't forget the 19th hole!) Cheers, Francois
