A Few Stats on our Small Family...

Hello guys,

When Alex posted a few days ago that the Lounge was getting between 20k-50k visitors per month, I was quite surprisedA Few Stats on our Small Family...

The Lounge was bigger than I had originally though… It always felt like a very small, but nice community - I feel like I know pretty much everybody who’s posting on the LoungeA Few Stats on our Small Family...

But I did a little bit of (geeky) research to make sure my impressions weren’t false and found out the following:

A) Since its inception, there has been about 1,100 threads started and approximately 10,250** posts written on the HL (an average of 2.8 threads and 18.8 posts per day)

B) While the lurkers can counted in the thousands, the participation on HL is limited to a few individuals… Including Alex’s posts, the top 35 posters account for 90% of the total posts, which partly explains the sense of “A Few Stats on our Small Family...little close familyA Few Stats on our Small Family...” we get here… Taking out our dear moderator and his posts out of the equation (to look at "pure outside participation", the top 35 posters still represent 87% of total posts…

Looking at the relative importance of posters, (numbers in bracket represent numbers excluding Alex), the top 3 posters represent 44% (28%) of total posts, and Top 10 represent 68% (59%) of total posts… If the HL was a public company and the Loungers its clients, it would be safe to say that the HL has a good, stable customer baseA Few Stats on our Small Family...... Alex represents by himself approximately 28% of total posts, and including Doc in the mix, those two represent 38%...

Out of the top 35 Loungers, 80% are VC owners*** That surprised me - I though that the split was more 50/50...

Useless, but interesting (?) factoids...

Cheers,

Francois

**Small prints to LoungersA Few Stats on our Small Family...: I had to make assumptions on the number of Loungers after top 40, and their average posts – my view is that those assumptions were more on the optimist side, which means that the numbers in the contribution analysis above could be even greater…
***Small prints to Loungers IIA Few Stats on our Small Family...: This could be even greater – for cases where I wasn’t sure, I made the assumption that the poster was not a VC owner

Got to love the disclaimer. Good work Veillotron

i know...

...I'm in love with disclaimers - I only feel good when my documents have a bunch of them... How sad

small correction...
04/29/2008 - 15:03

the 18.8 posts written daily average is based on Loungers excluding Alex. If we include our dear moderator, the number jumps to 26.0 posts/day...

Impressive work Franois, congrats, it must have taken quite some
04/29/2008 - 16:52

time to prepare

The number of posts per day is really impressive especially for a "stand alone" forum so it the number of hard core participants.

Thank you François for your work and thank you to all Loungers who make this forum live

And lurkers...don't be shy c'mon in and say hi (wow I actually made this rhyme )

you welcome!

but to be honest, it didn't take me that much time at all (thanks to the HL format, it's quite easy to get Loungers data...)

As you say, it is quite nice to see how "alive" the forum is

Very interesting stats Francois but I am beginning to worry about you. Need to get away from that computer and enjoy the great weather London is famous for.

Mr L

it's currently raining on my side of town ;-) (nt)

Thanks Francois, well done!

Very impressive effort and the results no less impressive! I'm sure VC will be very intersted as well.

Regards,

Josph

I think it's about the same on every forum,
04/29/2008 - 18:05

you have the frequently posting and the sporadic ,

the ironic  and the "what did I write now"  or the cool

Sometimes we are visited by who makes you  or the new owner

and the one who dreams of that watch  and also guys who just likes smileys

but most important, is the ordinary Lounger who  his fellows and VC !

I better post less in the future, and Alex, shut up !

Cheers

Doc ,  who also love the smileys, without them his heart would

Love your post :-) What surprises me on HL is the high number of
04/29/2008 - 18:16

regular posters. On all the other forums you have max 10 die hard posters whereas on the Lounge there are quite a large number with variety (those who like PW, vintahe, modern, technical aspects etc...) I think that there are many here who don't own a VC but love watches and  just enjoy the atmosphere the "family" has created.

Velliotron you've also done an amazing job

Thanks François, very interesting

for a body (like me) totally incapable to do these stats

Very interesting survey François!

It is really worth to do it: it gives us a better idea of how the forum lives and runs, and it's an important trend for VC too.

This is always surprising to learn these figures, which most of us cannot suspect and expect!

Great work.

thanks to all for the nice feedback! :-) (nt)

your stats confirm the 80/20 Pareto rule :-))) nt

Thanks for the stats

It is always good to know the demographics.

Personally, I try to participate as much as I can but for the last year or so, work has been getting in the way most of the time (posting less and less, and late...like now).

It is reassuring to know that The Lounge has grown to what it is now in the short span of one year, thanks mainly to the efforts of Alex and the regulars.

I hope The Lounge continues to develop as a quality forum.

Cheers!
