A friend's collection

Hey guys,

Sorry to keep you waiting for my 1000th post for so long... I wanted to make it fun and sort of special, a funny story will follow down in a few lines.

1000 posts makes you really look back and reminisce on this wonderful place The Hour Lounge is. I do not want to get too sentimental here and now but let me tell you, friends, this forum has become a very important part of my life. Thanks to you and your knowledgable discussions as well as posts I have learned a great deal on haute horology and specifically on my favorite (one and only to be exact) manufactre. Meeting a few of you in Geneva last and this year took my HL experience to another level - it was so special to put faces to the nicknames and the whole thing has become so much more personal.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for being such a great watch-loving gang. My special thank you goes out to Alex, who is the heart and soul of this magnificent gathering place. LOVE, buddy!

Enough of this mumbling... I need to get to the core of this post. I decided to show you guys a collection of VC watches that belongs to the best friend of mine. Unlike me, my buddy is a multi brand collector and he is into PP a lot. And it took me quite some time to make him realize what a wonderful brand Vacheron Constantin is. Let me also make a small suggestion that I was behind my friend's choices and he took my advice into consideration with each new acquisition. I know every story behind each of the pieces - you know the hunt, the bargain and finally arrival of each watch.

I asked Janek, my friend's son to snap a few pictures of his watches. He takes all the credit for the shots below. The funny story is I should have posted this quite some time ago but something happened along the way. My buddy and I are big fans of jogging/running. I told Janek to download the pictures onto a pen-drive and give it to his dad whom I would meet at the running practice. My friend indeed gave me the pen-drive during our run well into the woods and bad luck had it that I lost the drive out in the boonies... This delayed my posting this great stuff. Hopefully you will find this entertaining and I will immediately be able to return to posting comments underneath some great posts I had missed recently.

Enjoy!

An Open-face Retrograde 247, made in platinum in a limited editon of 247 pieces for the 247th anniversay of the brand. A catch at the very first Patrizzi and Co auction in Geneva. A very special piece IMHO, beautiful open face watch with great cotes de Geneve finish. Had it been made in a bigger case I would have gotten one for myself along time ago...

A 1972 in WG. Great piece, I love the assymetric case design, the dial lay-out and the bursting Roman numerals. The very first VC for my friend. Came all the way from Kuala Lumpur...

The newest arrival is the all-new Overseas with a titanium bezel. I jus love the mascunality and stealth emanating from the watch. God, and it looks great on the wrist. And let me tell you, the watch has been worn on a leather strap only. Which surprises me since I really think the rubber one is a lot more comfortable on the wrist...

The least favorite, I guess, since it doesn't get much wrist time due to its small size. But a very beautiful watch made in WG in a limited series of 600 pieces - a Caree Historique. A great caseback view of the movement. This bird flew in from Taiwan and was a fleaBay catch...

I hope this collection f VCs will grow as time goes by and I will be able to show you more interesting pieces.

Cheers,

Radek

excellent pieces for certain. I want to congratulate you for post 1000 with a special view of the grand canyon of the Pacific on the island of Kaua'i. My wife and I just returned from this beautiful place, two weeks in paradise to celebrate 35 years of marriage. It was great fun out there and now time to ease back to reality; The Hour Lounge is a nice Welcome back with all the great posts and friedly faces. my friend that VC is superior (in every aspect) to PP. At least in my opinion it is.

But seriously Radek, you've been a huge asset to the Lounge and have an enthusiasm for VCs that is extremely contagious! Things wouldn't be the same here without you - a true Vacheronista through and through! All the best and looking forward toward your next 1000 posts. Dan

Hello Radek, I know exactly what you mean about THL and the Loungers becoming an inseperable part of our lives.  Collecting watches is a very interesting hobby, but being able to share your thoughts with such a great community makes everything 100 times sweeter. More power (and watches) to you, my friend! Thanks for sharing your friends collection too!  I hope you can persuade him to be an active member here too so that we can "finish him off (convert him to another Vacheronista)!" All the best, Kazumi

Kazumi, my friend, thank you for your warm and kind words!

Great idea for a 1000th post!

Dear Radek, You are definitely a pillar of the HL, and I am happy to count you as one of my friends 1000 posts - of quality - is definitely a great achievement. The only one I didn't like was when you made a fool out of a few Loungers (myself mainly) having us believe that you had bought a St-Gervais on April 1... I still haven't gotten over that one As Kazumi said, you should definitely convince your friend to join the Lounge, he's obviously got some love for VC... Re wearing the OS on a leather strap, I am 100% with your friend. The grey leather strap is so amazing, and I think it looks better with the OS, which is IMO a nice "luxury sports watch". I like the fact that one can change the leather strap for a rubber one, but I would reserve the rubber strap for the messy or wet outdoor activities. I am looking forward to seeing you in January (...and convincing you to adopt me... I haven't given up yet on that idea) Cheers, Francois
Francois, buddy - thanks for your praise ;-)

My firend is a very busy attorney who will not participate on the Lounge simply due to lack of time. He is on hell of a guy though. He is Janek's father and let me just slip a little secret to you. I know what Janek is getting for Christmas this year and he will surely boast it here soon

I do agree with you on the looks of the new OS grey strap. It, indeed, is good looking and suits the watch well. But... there always is a but, right? The comfort of the rubber strap is unmistakably immposible to replace. Happy to see you soon!

If I was Janek reading your reply...

...I surely would go to bed a VERY happy chap! Cheers, Francois
