function first

Hello,

I am looking for a watch with the following functions:

self-winding, year, month, day, hour, minutes, seconds, alarm.

Despite my efforts, no such automatic watch seems to exist.

Watchmakers seem more interested in form than function,

and is surprising that, after centuries of expertise, one such

basic watch is still not available.

I look forward to your comments.

Luca

a perpetual calendar with alarm? It seems that the alarm function is
03/22/2008 - 12:18

something few high end brands have invested in as they probably want to focus on repeaters when it comes to chiming watches. generally the alarm function somewhat fell out of fashion in the 70s and few high end brands have one on catalogue.

I'm sure that if the public wanted more alarm wrist watches brands would be making them in industrial quantities, like the tourbillon.

I do think however that JLC makes a perpatual calendar with alarm.

There is such watch created by JLC under collection Master Control.

finding perpetual caleder with alarm are quite difficult.

Again, I am not having much luck. But I am also picky with the style, as I want it to be a thin dress watch.

I like the VC Patrimony Contemporaine Date. If only it had the perpetual calendar, well hidden in

its dial so that you notice it only if you know it is there. Just a numeric [dd|mm|yy] would be splendid.

The alarm would be the step forward.

Greetings Luca

The Jaeger Grand Master Reveil is a perpetual with an alarm.

Heres a link:

Vulcain also has 2 alarm watches, Golden Voice and Golden Heart, but they are time (hours, minutes, seconds) only.

Good Luck

OK, I must forget the JLC, as its size is not right.

By comparison, Patek-Philippe has a 37,1x8,9mm version, with less complications, still with the useless moon phase

and a cluttered dial, but no year...

They all seem to tease around the "right" model, the one I want. They clearly have the expertise to

make it, but carefully avoid it. They keep cluttering their dials with all sorts of useless complications.

A classical analogic dial for hh:mm:ss and a numerical [dd|mm|yy] would just be perfect.

I think I have to give up with the idea, again, and wait for another year to pass uneventfully...

Sorry I couldn't be of any help in your quest, Luca

But with all due respect, what you consider as useless clutter on the dial may be actually quite useful to someone else who happens to need or like a specific function.

There are some watches companies as well as independent watchmakers who do custom work.

Perhaps investigating that avenue may help resolve your search.
