Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve - The Pre-selected Watches 2014

For the Loungers who have not seen the news yet:

I am disappointed that there is no VC pieces amongst the finalists. I have to say that I am really surprised that none of the Metiers d'Art Fabuleux Ornements made it in the Artistic Crafts category.

Also surprising is that from the "Big 4", there is only one piece from AL&S as a finalist (there is no PP and no AP). Not saying that they deserved to be considered just because of their brand name, but it just feels weird that the heavy hitters are not present this year.

They're small but they're big to me and so De Bethune and others I see. On the other hand, some of the "big" are not that big to me. I won't mention them, I just can say I really like Vacheron and Lange also and anything made by Giulio Papicheeky

Jokes apart, I agree, it's a pity none of those fabulous champlevé dials were selected for the final round.

EDIT: was selected. Sorry

The LM1 is my dream watch :-)

I am also rooting for MB&F and the independents

..although I have not yet purchased from them.

It doesn't come cheap, but the Laurent Ferrier tourbillon is top of my "if money was no object" list. And I'm with you on De Bethune, their watches are out of this world.

Francois, Committees in all walks of life the world over have

their own opinions.  Same is true for the GPHG.

I always find that some of the best / nicest are not present at the GPHG.  IMHO, SIHH 2014 was a stellar year for VC as all the openworked pieces were worthy of an award.  What about VC's new Minute Repeater, unvelied at W and W 2013. That too is award worthy.

Whether a VC gets this award or not makes no difference to my love for the brand.

I know what you are saying

Every committee is entitled to their opinion, and you can rest assured that I will not lose sleep over it, but I do find the selection a bit peculiar...

Out of 72 spots, Breguet holds 6, followed by Bulgari, Chopard, Montblanc and Zenith with 4 each - those 5 brands combined have been awarded 1/3 of the available spots. Alex's answer below does help understand the outcome - one way of seeing it is that 5 firms have had amazing years; or maybe they've just been lobbying a bit harder than others... angel

The Geneva Watch Grand Prix is based on a voluntary participation and the reason why
09/03/2014 - 21:32

VC was not selected is because the brand did not participate this year and consequently did not submit any watches

Thanks Alex - I guess RIchemont wanting to promote other portfolio brands... (nt)

It was VC's choice not to participate. Richemont doesn't interfere in these matters
09/04/2014 - 09:10

well then for what reason did VC choose to not participate?
09/04/2014 - 15:20

Not trying to be difficult, this is an honest question...angel

Isn't the GPHG akin to the Oscars for watchmakers?
