The Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!

On 1 October 2008, at 10:27am, my lovely wife Michelle gave birth to my first son, Olivier. The Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!The Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!The Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!
He weighted 5lbs 7oz. Since he was 5 weeks premature and had a few little health problems (which scared the hell out of his parents for a few days The Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!, but now are resolvedThe Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!), we spend most of the next 10 days in hospital. But now baby and mommy are fine and at home, and I feel like the proudest and happiest daddy in the whole worldThe Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!The Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!The Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!!!!

Here are a few pics of him, ...

Funny how life goes... Olivier was born almost exactly a year from when I was involved in my car crash - things have changed so much since then... Before, I was VC-less, and now not only do I have a 47212, but I also have somebody to hold it for... The Greatest Day of My Life!!!!!!

That's so great Francois!!!!! A trillion congratulations. Your life is definitely in for a change as many of us here in this Lounge will agree. All the best to the three of you (and maybe a few more down the road?) He looks just like you Joseph
Thanks Joseph, as you said
10/11/2008 - 20:43
my life has already changed completely. Well, maybe not completely... I went from doing sleepless nights, working on spreadsheets at the office, to doing sleepless nights at home, changing nappies. Needless to say I much prefer dealing with my son's pooh. I so wish I could be a stay-at-home-dad...

Congratulations Francois (and to your wife too)! I am sure he is the reason why you are still with us after your serious accident.  What's more, he will be a source of energy and an even bigger reason for you to live life to its fullest (and to take care of your watches!). I can't give much advice on parenting since I am only on my second year, but I can tell you this will be the start of a long and thrilling roller coaster ride.  Hold on and enjoy the ride daddy!! With best wishes, Kazumi
Cheers Kazumi,

You are correct about the rollercoaster part... from the beginning, because the pregnancy was 5 weeks early, I was excited but also anxious about the whole event... The day he was born was the happiest of my life, I couldn't stop crying (I was worse than the ladies in the movies from the 50s...) - and then the next 2 where probably the worst of my life, when he had to get treated for high level of billirubin. Nothing major with hindsight, but at the time my wife and I were completely sick with worries... And now we are back to eing in heaven, as he's now healthy. The 11 last days have been completely crazy, I cannot start to think about the next 11 years
All the best to the three of you!!!

It is really a great day when your first born child shows up in this world. Hope you won't settle on Olivier only Hope you won't have to spend any more stressful moments at hospitals either... You know there is a Polish proverb: you become a real man when you have a son, build a house and plant a tree. how far along are you, Francois?
Thank you my friend, to answer your question I am not sure...
10/11/2008 - 20:52
1) I do have a son 2) I did build a treehouse when I was about 8 3) I did plant a tomato plant when I was 6 (it was to sell the tomatoes at $0.25 each. My mom told me I was obsessed by money from a very early age - no wonder I became a banker) So would those 3 make me a man? And at the same time, I still have some Star Wars figurines in my office and my favorite movie is The Dark Knight - will there ever be any chance for me??? Man or not, I am VERY happy... Cheers, Francois
What do I do, Francois: I have two daughters and a slimmest chance...
10/11/2008 - 22:49
for a boy Who inherits my VCs? This question will remain unanwsered for a VERY long time... Anyway, enjoy fatherhood and many sleepless nights ahead
You could always adopt me
10/11/2008 - 22:53
That's your problem solved right there
That would make Radek a grandpa :-) (nt)
10/12/2008 - 15:32
too early for me to be a grandpa - sorry, Fracois ;-))) (nt)

10/11/2008 - 17:55

10/11/2008 - 19:21

10/11/2008 - 20:57
right now, he's more concerned about his mother's milk... but do not worry, I will turn him into a WIS. And thank you Alex, you are the first one to give me credit! After all, I did have a role to play in all of this I'm not a smoker, but when we next see each other I'll have some cigars Cheers, Francois
btw, even my wife liked it! :-) (nt)

Our most valuable possessions....
10/11/2008 - 18:52
are not watches!  And too soon we must let them go on their own.  I'm looking forward to grandchildren now.  Congratulations to your wife and yourself, may your family be blessed.
Thank you for your kind words
10/11/2008 - 21:01
You are absolutely correct... Francois
I forgot to write the 2nd part of my sentence...
10/11/2008 - 22:55
I wanted to say that since Olivier's arrival, all the VCs and watches (and all material things for that matter) have indeed lost quite a bit of their importance in my eyes
Francois, A very hearty congratulations to you and Michelle
10/11/2008 - 23:19
The 1st picture is precious. Definately a game changer for both of you and all to the positive. Though I must tell you as a grand father of 3 little girls it's much better. I can go over play with them for hours and get them all revved up, then go home and leave them to my son and daughter in-law.  Enjoy every moment with little Olivier, unfortunately time goes by much to quickly.....So happy for you especially after last year it couldn't of happened to a more deserving person. John
Thank you Mr L.
10/12/2008 - 00:38
I agree that the first picture is special, we were lucky o be able to get this pose on film... I think I understand your point of view as a grand-father, it must be somewhat similar to being the cool uncle (I've also had the pleasure of playing and getting my brother's kids in a mainc state, and then leaving to have diner with friends while the parents have the fun job or trying to calm down over-excited kids...) Thanks for your kind words, and hopefully we'll be able to meet again this year at SIHH... Cheers, Francois
CUte !
10/11/2008 - 23:22
Congratulations to the proud parents !
Thanks Berny! (nt)
10/12/2008 - 00:38
My dear François, congrats to both of you (your wife and you)!
10/12/2008 - 01:32
A new member in a family is exceptional and I am very happy for you, especially after what you occured 1 year ago! Enjoy life with your son: it's great. And maybe the King's choice to come in the short future: one son, one daughter. Cheers, Patrice
Cher Patrice, a daddy's girl would be an awesome addition,
10/12/2008 - 02:27
but not just yet - for the moment I've got my hands full Thank you my friend for your post. Cheers, Francois
Sincere congratulations Francois and Michelle....
10/12/2008 - 02:51
on the arrival of the awesome Olivier!!!! It is wonderful to know that mother and son are both doing well and back home and also that dad is hanging in there too with the diapers. Good to hear that Patek doesn't have an exclusive on that "whole passing of watches from one generation to the next" thing.  Congratulations again! Cheers, Duncan
Thanks Duncan
10/12/2008 - 02:58
re the Patek "hold it for the next generation" ad, Doc once told us that VC actually came up with that slogan a few years before Patek used it Cheers, Francois
Well, they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... :-)
10/12/2008 - 03:35
Congrats again Francois and hope that you can catch a few winks of sleep every now and then. Cheers, Duncan
Congratulations, Francois. Wait until he calls you daddy.

I can't see a picture of a newborn without shedding a few tears... Your son is beautiful. Congratulations to the three of you. Plus he was born in October which is the best month to be born in. Que les années à venir soient les plus douces possibles. Natacha

Never allow yourself to be too busy to enjoy your most precious little timekeeper. Miki
Thanks Miki
10/13/2008 - 14:40
Today's my first day back at work... I've spend 2 hours in the office, and I already miss him!  Being a stay-at-home-daddy would be perfect for me - that way I could enjoy my son AND spend a lot of time on the HL... Only problem would be how to finance my QdI... Cheers,  Francois
What a blessing!
10/13/2008 - 06:53
Congratulations to you and your wife. I'm very happy for you and wish you all the best going forward. Bill

Congratulations Francois on the new joy in your life. I am glad to read that your wife Michele and baby Oliver are doing well. Certainly your life will be changing for the better with another male in the household. So your break time can be spent with us Loungers between diaper changes, lol. I hope you will share some pics with us as Oliver starts his playful times in a few months and maybe with your VC's too. Best wishes and lots of luck for only good health for all.

Thanks Matt!
10/14/2008 - 13:44
I'll probably take a few pictures of him with his future VC :-) Cheers,  Francois
