Guidance on purchasing my first VC

I have been frequenting boutiques including PP, AP, VC, ALS etc. in search for the perfect dress watch. I have had my eye on the Calatrava for a while now and have seen many references in person. However, I was never really blown away until I saw the VC Patrimony Tradionelle Small Seconds (well that and the Historiques 1955 Ultra Fine). The watch, in my eyes, is perfection.

However, I was in the Riyadh boutique and noticed, to my utter shock, that prices were quoted 40-50% above retail. I got in touch with the Middle East manager, who was kind enough to immeditely remedy the situation. Since then, the boutique has reduced its prices across the VC line. However, this particular watch retails for about USD 20,900/- (as per online research, I admit), whereas the price being quoted to me is USD 21,120/- (post 10% discount). This is a vast improvement over the original quoted retail price of USD 28,000/-, but I still do not think it is fair to pay a higher price than the Swiss retail price, especially since there are no applicable duties/taxes in the region. I also recently purchased a AP Royal Oak from Riyadh and was quoted an excellent discount on the Swiss retail price from the AP Boutique.

I would appreciate if you could guide me on the purchase i.e. should I potentially try other boutiques in the region for a better price. I would certainly welcome personal experiences on purchasing the PT Small Seconds elsewhere in the world, including expected discounts etc.

Welcome DEE and congrats on your choice of VC as for

prices this is crazy that a boutique was charging 30% over list!!! Hiowever, if you don't live in a country with high import taxes the retail price of the watch is more or less the same in every country. If you travel to Europe you can get VAT refund but have to pay the local taxes (if any) when coming back
Excellent choice

This is one of the most beautiful and elegant watches at all, and in PT, it is even more special due to the unique colour of the dial and the extra weight as the secret priviledge to the happy owner only ... The best place to acquire it is the place of origin: Best, R.
Great postcard!

If I'm not mistaken VC boutiques and authorized retailers don't

give discount anymore since 2013.
True for VC Boutiques, not necessariy for ADs

In many countries, including the US, a manufacturer cannot legally prohibit a dealer from discounting their product.  That being said, when supply is limited, ADs who discount may have difficulty getting product, and the boutiques always have the best selection of timepieces.
