This happens once in a lifetime !

When I first saw this digital pocket watch, in the best book, yet, about VC, "World Of VacheronConstantin",

on page 217, I just knew, that if opportunity was given to me, I should grab one !

This is from 1825 !!!

This happens once in a lifetime !

And in November 2007 I ran in to one from 1827.

Last week it finally landed in my hands This happens once in a lifetime !

This happens once in a lifetime !

This happens once in a lifetime !

But it was not exactly as the one VacheronConstantin had in their museum...

It was something more with this watch, than that one had...

This happens once in a lifetime !

It's a beautiful back and when you open it,

you can't believe it's 181 years old This happens once in a lifetime !

This happens once in a lifetime !

Just look at that engraving, by hand and what a condition !

But there is something else as I wrote, that makes this watch exceptional,

and that is the little tap at the crown !

I didn't believe my eyes This happens once in a lifetime !

It's also a quarter repeater ! This happens once in a lifetime !

This happens once in a lifetime !

To start it, you pull out the tap and press it down !

The sound is so lovely that it's a pity I can't share it with you.

Quarter repeater means, for those who dosen't know, that at for instance 9:50,

it goes ding (lovely) 9 times, and then dig-dong 3 times (one ding-dong for each quarter).

It was very exclusive 1827, and in digital form I only seen Vacheron&Constantin's made.

A closer look at the both hammers and the rings.

This happens once in a lifetime !

Our hero and my dear friend, Directeur la Maison VacheronConstantin, Dominique Bernaz,

was as always, very nice and found all facts around this special watch.

As you see below, all the ten persons are named, who worked to complete this marvellous piece of art,

we did say so, that sometimes watches are art, didn't we ? This happens once in a lifetime !

This happens once in a lifetime !

Please share my happiness, and enjoy what Vacheron&Constantin was able to do,

24 years before PP was founded This happens once in a lifetime !

This a bit of the heritage that VacheronConstantin rests on,

and that's why they still are number one This happens once in a lifetime !

Your dial is just drop dead gorgeous and the watch looks as if it was made yesterday!!

More scans please

At last a repeater, thanks :-) (nt)

That's a lovely example of 1900 century VC craftsmanship.

Wear it it good health!

02/27/2008 - 19:19

How did you find such an amazing piece? Congratulations again and thanks for sharing the great photos!

Well Mike, I'm been searching quite a while, thanks ! (nt)
02/27/2008 - 23:21

What a find, you are a triple winner on this one Doc
02/27/2008 - 19:27

1) You get an extremely early complicated watch.

2) Watch is in mint condition.

3) Then having the history of ALL the men that worked on it.

To coin the the new cliche'.........Priceless.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

No one could have said it better than you John, thanks :-) (nt)
02/27/2008 - 23:22

It's fantastic!
02/27/2008 - 19:44

Beautiful, and with a "modern design"! Are you sure it's from 1827 ?

I really think it beats a 222, or ?
02/27/2008 - 23:25

More about the 222's later.

Just keep cool

Re: This happens once in a lifetime !
02/27/2008 - 20:44

Congratulations, Doc : I was desperatly admiring it at Dr Krott's auction !

I am happy you are the one who got it !

Yes it was the one, but it took some time,
02/27/2008 - 23:27

but it worth it

Thanks !

My dear Doc!
02/27/2008 - 23:39

There is no word to tell you how happy I am for you. This pocket watch is so fantastic, and it looks so mint, that you should, you must, be on clouds to enjoy it...

Really, next time we meet, if you could share this beauty and its sound (which I am pretty sure is great) with me and some other Loungers...

It would be great!

My best congrats from your friend

My friend Patrice, that would really be
02/28/2008 - 00:12

something I love to share with all my fellow Hour Loungers

Is there any technican amongst us,

who could give a hint on how to make a sound file,

I could try do that, and send it,

but nothing beats the real sound !

It's really fantastic, and it's my first repeater ever

Thanks for your words, hope seeing you soon,

video file
02/28/2008 - 00:23

Doc, you can film it while it chimes with a digital camera; then put the video file on your computer and upload it to youtube for example. It works.

Doc, this just goes to prove that the best goes to the best! I cannot
02/28/2008 - 00:26

believe the beauty of this timepiece and the elegance it radiates--no kidding, it is breath taking.

I see the Loungers are all crazy for this work of art too.

Thanks for sharing this creation V&C.

Tim, you are too kind, but I'm proud like a father :-) (nt)
02/28/2008 - 01:10

All has been said already and congratulations seem to...
02/28/2008 - 01:07

be never-ending.

I am happy for you, Doc. It's ypur ultimate dream come true. Enjoy the moment!

Exactly! A dream came true !
02/28/2008 - 01:29

I always wanted a repeater, and having heard the sounds of different brands,

there is only one, Vacheron&Constantin !

That's a truth, confirmed by even PP aficionados,

that is one of two things no one beats VC on.

The other are skeletons

Having listened to Vacheron in pocket cases and in wrist watch cases,

the decision for me were made several years ago,

but I also wanted the first jump hour....

Sometimes reality beats the dreams and I got both in one.

Now I have one big project, completing the VC jump hour production.

and then we are in the Art Deco, when they produced both of these

Time After Time After Time
02/28/2008 - 08:38

Congratulations on your magnificent find, I'll have to hear one one day.

Vacheron never ceases to amaze

Tanks for the kind words, Milton :-) (nt)
02/28/2008 - 12:38

WOW I had never seen the wrist watch implementation, drop dead
02/28/2008 - 11:05

gorgeous...both of them

Youi surprise me Alex !
02/28/2008 - 12:43

This I trowed a low-ball at Sotheby's dec 2005.

No hit exactly, went for 60.000 USD !!

I guess the second best choice would be this one...
02/28/2008 - 12:49

Grattis Doc!
02/28/2008 - 09:19

Vad kan man säga? Ett STORT grattis till denna otroliga klockan!!!

Man bugar, tack för uppskattningen !! (nt)
02/28/2008 - 12:44

02/28/2008 - 11:17

I can't believe this beautiful watch is 181 years old. I expect to see more pictures at the chapter of your book that will cover the minute repeaters. I'm very happy for you.

Thanks George, yes 181 years is unbelievable,
02/28/2008 - 12:47

with that technique and quality

It's lying beside me and keeps time !

Only Vacheron&Constantin could performe such a watch !

Stunning!! Wear it in good health NT
02/28/2008 - 12:03

My pleasure, Space Ace, thanks ! (nt)
02/28/2008 - 12:48

I don't think it will happen in my lifetime in Malaysia
02/28/2008 - 12:43

But I am sure from now on, it will happen many times in my dream.

Congrats Doc.

It didn't happen in Sweden either,
02/28/2008 - 12:49

you have to look abroad

Good Luck !

Doc, you must be in heaven!!!!
02/28/2008 - 14:06

Late, but well deserved Congratulations!!!!

This is a true beauty, you must be so happy!

I don't know how long you searched for this piece, but the efforts were well worth it!

As much as I love this piece, and even though it is a quarter repeater, I think my favorite watch in your collection remains the 1930 Platinum piece unique...

Shame you are not coming to SIHH...

I am my friend!
02/28/2008 - 14:56

And in a choice between those you mention,

yep, you are probably right, but that's because you and I see things,

through "the same eyes", concerning the Art Deco as design !

02/28/2008 - 14:22

I had the chance to hear it yesterday. Woaaaaouuuu

A repeater with such chimes produces a really beautiful sound.

I hope I'll have the chance to hear it for real !

Happy man.

Only whish you had taken the pics, Deniz ! Thanks :-) (nt)
