Help to identify vintage VC.

Hello, am totally new to this, and am rather confused, especially with regard to the various numbers, so would love some help.

Bought this watch yesterday. Was told it was circa 1939. Have found a few pictures from 1938 and 1940 which have faces of a similar aesthetic, but the closest I could find was a 1950 watch but it has very different casing. I found the same casing on an early 40s watch. The strap I know to be new.

On the case back there are the following numbers. 284262 with 22 below and 2 below that. This is stamped into the metal. Etched in by hand is 74737-426. W1220 is sort of scribbled into the metal.

On on the mechanism at 6 o’clock 444178 is stamped into the metal. At 9 o’clock the number stamped in is either 453 12c or 458 12c.

I would dearly appreciate any help and guidance in finding out more about this watch. Date & model, or if it is cobbled together from different watches.

It has been lovely to see all the wonderful pieces that members have posted.

Many thanks,

Irène

P.S. For some weird reason a lot of Latin text is appearing with the images on the uploader. My apologies for this. I don't know where it came from and it won't let me delete it.

40s than 30, the dial seems to have been redone. Give me some time to check for production date.
