The Hour Lounge goes East. Part 1 Hong Kong

We’ve had Hour Lounge events all over the world, from the US, to Europe to India but never to Asia and the showing of the SIHH 2011 novelties was a good opportnity to go East and thus begun my journey to Hong Kong, Singappore and Shanghai.

I set off with my favorite partner in crime, Chrisian Selmoni, VC Artistic Director and Lounger at heart.

Hong Kong Feb 22-23
Going to Hong Kong is always a treat, not that I go there often, this being my second time but still I love the energy of the city. I arrived late afternoon and after a fantastic dinner of Chinese cuisine including one of the most delicious Pekinese ducks I had ever eaten i twas time to set the city on fire!

With the 7 hour time difference even if it was time to go t Io bed I was wide awake and ready to party and discover the Hong Kong nightlife…which was surprisingly alive for a Tuesday night.

As they say what goes on in Hong Kong remains in HK but to have some horological content here’s a wrist scan of my QDI in an ice bar –fur coat et al – drinking strawberry vodka shots.

After about 3 hours of sleep it was time to get up and visit the VC offices. The latter (along with the other Richemont brands) are located at Jardin House, more popularly known to the Hong Hongese as the building of the thousand ass ….s, it is uncertain if this refers to the numerous windows or to its occupants - the building being occupied previoulsy by local British administration.

The evening we had the evnet which took place in the private rooms of the Mandarin Oriental hotel . Amongst the Loungers present – old and new – those participating or just lurking (« I’m a submarine » one put it rather aptly) was Aaron Ler. A Lounger I have been chatting with for almost the past 10 years and it twas finally a treat to meet him.

That’s one of the greatest things about our community, you can meet on the net and finally in real life and even if its the 1st time you see each other its like as if you’ve been friends for a long time !

Talking about watch nuts, Patrice who was on vacation from France convinced his wife that she didn’t want to spend a boring evening with a bunch of boring watch geeks but that the trip wouldn’t be the same for him if he didn’t attend…and voila there he was.

You know that people are having a fine time when they leave late and I wasn’t in bed before 1.15 AM but the problem was that once in bed my eyes were wide open and my jet lag was hitting in the other way around, in stead of being exhausted I was wide and I mean WIDE awake !

8 hours of cumulated sleep in the past 72 hours, the sort of stuff I did in college but at the time a good nights sleep and I would be ready to start again, now it takes me half a year to recuperate The Hour Lounge goes East. Part 1 Hong Kong

A big thank you to the VC team in Hong Kong for making it happen and all the Loungers for making it so much fun.

I know what you mean when you say that putting faces to the nicknames is just a formality. Once you get to meet eye to eye it feels like you've been best buddies forever

undertstanding the brand better, its heritage .... i respect other brands but i love VC. how time flies, and since my identity exposed, i shall share the vintage pic taken in 2005 with my business partner at the event in singapore. how i have aged , but my watches haven't, especially the les historiques chrono. i hope i can honour my words to visit u and the rest of the like-passioned loungers in SIHH next year.
