How many ref.6782 around?(aka Thunderbird)

Gentlemen, I'm waiting for my ref.6782. In 18k yellow gold. I would like to know how many examples it was produced, and pics of your personal watch. I'm deeply in love with my watch, and very soon i will post some big and nice pics. Regards

I've seen one reference that say this model watch was made in less than 100 pieces, but another reference says it was made in less than 300 pieces.  Only VC knows for sure, I don't think they have added them all up before...I know they haven't officially come out and said how many were made in total. Both of those references that I've seen state that this was only made in yellow gold, but one of our Loungers was lucky enough to find one in a previously never known white gold version. Here is mine: Best Regards, Dan

i would like to know the date of production of my watch. The serial number is 3982xx. No cyclope lens on the glass, and black ink on the bezel's numbers and symbols. Thanks in advance for your help.
That's an early one

Assuming your are providing the case number, that is early for the series.  I have an idea of the date but am still waiting for you to post some pictures wink.  Can you post the entire serial number?  Also the movement number is needed to properly date the watch, so the back must come off.  I recommend a Horb ball or, if not too tight, even a rubber pot holder to unscrew the back.  DO NOT use any metal case opener without prior experience frown.

Interesting, I've never seen a Ref. 6782 with the older K1072 movment

(or is that a K1071?)  I have only seen them with the K1072/1 movement (with the free-sprung, Gyromax balance). I've also never seen those hands on a T-Bird. But yours is a very early version.  I see that you provided the full movement serial number.  I think you will need to provide the full case serial number as well, in order for VC to provide year of manufacture. Best Regards, Dan

Hi Dan, I bought this watch from the first and only owner,an Italian racing driver in the 60'and 70's. It was purchased in Lugano,Switzerland in the 60's,. It is a first and rare version of the thunderbird, and now is on restoring and servicing. The complete serial number stamped on the back case is 398227. I'm looking forward your answer about the date of production. Thank you very much for your help and support, keep in touch! :)

1963 according to my database (still to be confirmed by Alex), which is indeed a very early example.  Wonderful news to have another T-Bird surface and head to the spa for restoration.
