I Have a VC but know nothing about it.

I wonder if anyone can help me. My ex-husband has asked me to enquire about his father's watch.

It has a gold face, very flat, roman numerals, I am not sure if it is solid gold and has a sapphire in the winder.  It has written on it Vacheron & Constantine, (underneath it is written Geneve Suisse).  The strap needs renewing.  The lugs are very flat and sort of squared not rounded.  There is no second hand and it is manual winding.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Linda, A photo would be a great help. Unfortunately your description matches a lot of different Vacherons. But the inclusion of the "&" does date it as a vintage piece, likely before 1960. I assume the shape is round? JB
from your description it sounds like an extra flat made between

1955 and 1974 (date when the & was dropped from the brand name), the fact that it has a saphire on the crown makes me think it was made in the late 60s earls 70s. However as Joseph ponted out VC made many watches similar to the one in your description and it would be useful if you could post a scan or even better give us the reference number inscribed either on the case back or in it.
