I would write THE book of Vacheron&Constantin.

I'm 69 years old, have money to survive,

but couldn't lay back on the Riviera,

without working...

There are of course,  "The world of Vacheron Constantin",

which is one of my absolute favourites,

because it catches the Enlightment

in Europe, and ALL arts in a formidbale way, but it's only 20% about VC.

From the 1990's

Also "Secrets of Vacheron Constantin" by Cologni a couple of years ago.

More pics, but that also what it got, to be honest...

The history of Vacheron & Constantin, is like a novel,

and I got some papers shared between Vacheron and Constantin...

What I think we Vacheron&Constantin WIS, want is:

Calibers, where they came from..

How many was made ?

What were their ref. number ?

Movement numbers..

Pics of movements

Pics of watches, WITH their ref. number,

not the number from the museum.

How many were made each year, I know only 1937,

when they made 439 watches, during the whole year !

Co operation partners, we all knows about JLC (they even shared boxes),
but were never married !

Yes it will be a hell of a job, but that is exactly what I want for two years.

The story is incredible as you get deeeper and deeper in it...

But we want som hard facts , especially of the new watch which I'm no hero.

But I can learn!

And my curiosity needs it.
But as I say,
ALL doors HAVE to be open, I don't want a B copy of all other books.

This would be a monumental and extremely beautiful book,

in a size that's not coffe table !

But not one more coffe table book !

More a like beautiful Berner, but not so dull of course.

Every page would would be inspiring, and it should be hard to put down, but on the other hand,
ALL the details and answers SHOULD be in it.

A BIBLE to return and return again to.

The obvious book for VC aficionados and also getting a lot "outside people" (read PP),
impressed and intersted.
I want them to react like, WOW, is that possible, what a history!,
did HE or SHE ordered one, an on and on!

God, that would be a nice monument to leave behind.

Have you read "Marine Chronometer", its history and development" by Rupert T. Gould ?

It's still, since 1923 unchanged !!

I wouldn't dream of coming in his division, he spent his life on this book of 280 pages,
but no one has ever tried to write an other !!

I have browsed through it but not read it in any depth. Its not exactly "light Reading".

The others here are a bit easier going.

PS I'll be waiting for YOUR book!

It is a real GREAT idea, Doc,
11/18/2007 - 22:27

but also a huge work. Before waiting for it and your special dedicace ex Doc, if we can be of some help...

Maybe Alex could coordinate and create a task force, managed by you Doc.

To be continued thinking about it.

Hi Doc,

Here is your thumbs up!   This would be a great historic reference for any WIS, not just Loungers.  It would be a tremendous undertaking and I think we would all be indebted to you. I would definitely buy at least 2 copies for myself!

My dear fiends, I want INPUT !!!
11/19/2007 - 01:57

I DO want to write THE BOOK,

but without your inputs it will never be a good book.

So, PLEASE, give me all your ideas.

Stupid as well as good.

What are YOU intersted in ?

What are your questions?

What would you know etc etc... ?

Looking forward to ALL inputs

Re: My dear fiends, I want INPUT !!!

Hi Doc,

Among other things, I would really like it to be a factual reference book with the information you mentioned before (i.e. production volume per year, movement #s, S/N, accompanied with pictures, etc.)

This level of detail is extremely difficult, but it is what I would be the most interested in.

BR, Dan

YES,YES,YES...are u going to answer the prayer for me....
11/19/2007 - 02:02

if i can't own your VCs , at least i can own those pages.   also, i wish u can add a personal touch by telling the readers why the choice of that particular piece to your collection,  that'll will provide a watch collector's perspective on a VC. i will support by buying 4 copies for myself and my good friends. of course, i will need your signature on my copy.

and I would like to photograph
11/19/2007 - 10:12

other VC for this book as Tour de L'Isle, or The Cabotiniers.

Oh yes yes !

That would be the dream !
11/19/2007 - 15:08

Did you have a look on the Overseas pictures ? (nt
11/19/2007 - 16:25

Please go ahead
11/19/2007 - 11:25

This is a great idea!  And if it includes photographs by Deniz ....

What I would also like to read in this book is:

inventions by V&C

Awards won by V&C

Historical figures that owned a V&C (besides you)

Exceptional Master watcmakers that cooperated with V&C.

And if you want your book translated in Greek I would be honoured to  do it for free.

For me there is as much enjoyment (if not more) to read and learn about the watches we admire so much. I would love to help in any wayy possible. I think a good outline are the books on Patek by Huber and barberry. They not only gave the history of the company but went into the details of the movements and which watch (references) hade those movements. I read Franceo Cologni book "secrets of Vacheron Constantin" and enjoyed readin about the history of the company but felt it lacked details about the popular watches of the era's and what movements they carried. Another curiousity I share with you are the qty's of watches they made on an annual basis. Example does anyone have the production numbers they make in 2007????

I hope you take this on and let us know how we can assist.

11/19/2007 - 19:52

I'm not 69 years old !!!!

I'm 59 years  young

So I could still drive a covertible with loud music

it was my wife who saw it it !

10 years younger in 24 hours,

just a kid really

This was last year ago or about that

Doc the junior

"But not one more coffe table book !"
11/20/2007 - 00:07

Don't even try to write a coffee table ! The ultimate one already exists : it's a coffee table book about coffee tables !!

(private joke for Seinfeld fans)

Seriously, it would be great to get an exhaustive book about VC (and with Deniz pictures!)

you are one of the few in Europe...
11/20/2007 - 18:48

seriously, I think I can count European Seinfeld fans (including myself) on my hands...

You'll be happy to hear that Season 9 is now out on DVD...

And would you consider changing your name to Dr. Von Nostrum?

Art Vandalay

hey count me in :-) (nt)
11/20/2007 - 23:47

happy to hear that - again, great men think alike!! :-) (nt)
11/21/2007 - 20:30

Dr Von Nostrum
11/21/2007 - 00:11

is more confidential, but could be a good nickname. I'm considering using it to introduce myself to desperate (house)wives. Guaranteed success !! hoochie mamma !

giddiyup! :-) (nt)
11/21/2007 - 20:33

Doc, I am all with you!!!
11/20/2007 - 13:46

I don't know much, but I would be happy to help in whatever way
