You're pretty much all on the money... I did buy the 47212, again…
My first unfortunate experience cooled off my love for VC, and took some of the “magic” I felt for the brand away… Not having bought the 47212, I was left with a decent amount of extra funds, and for 2 weeks I couldn’t sleep, thinking of how best to use that money (thanks to Alex, Doc, and Bill for all the support – I must have been emailing these guys 5 times a day)… I seriously considered using it to pay down the house mortgage. But at the same time, I wanted to buy myself a quality watch, so I looked around to find a replacement.
I was so madly in love, infatuated and obsessed with the EP QP that to me, buying any other watch seemed like throwing money away (no offense intended to anyone…).
I did consider for a while the Malte Chrono, which, compared to the 47212, offers a much better value/price ratio… but in the end, I would have missed my moonphase too much. I think if an EP version of the Malte Chrono would have been available at the time I took my decision, I would have probably gone for it.
I did consider also the QdI, but since the collection has just been launched, I’m in no rush to get one right now.
So in the end I decided to buy the 47212, again. But because of the first experience, I wasn’t ready to spend the same amount of $$$ for it. Luckily for me, while the GBP/CHF exchange rate had gone the wrong way for me, the GBP/USD evolution was much more favorable. I made a few call to some ADs in the US, and in the end managed to struck a decent deal. Price differential because of the FX and discount was HUGE compared to what I had initially paid. I know this forum shouldn’t be about the buying experience itself, but for me it is closely linked to appreciation of the watch… The first time around I didn’t feel I was getting a good deal, and because of that I did feel bad putting that much money on a watch. I’ve had no qualms this time… I’ve had it for now a week, and I can’t get tired of looking at it… especially the moonphase
Here’s a few pics, but I guess I need to get a macro lense for my camera for better shots (that’s me: all the gear and no idea…). I’ll try to get better ones soon
