IMHO, a very significant year for VC

After pondering about this year's novelties...I think that while this year seemed to start slow (at least for the men's novelties)...it will be proven to be a smashing year for VC.

2013 is more of a slow burn with long-lasting power, rather than a rapid fire/sizzle.

During SIHH in January, VC’s focus was definitely on women’s watches, with the beautiful MDA Florilège.

But I really liked the men’s offerings that were presented and have seriously considered buying at least one of them, though all would make me happy.

Now that the Patrimony 1731 Minute Repeater has been introduced at Watches & Wonders – everybody will be talking about it.  This and the Patrimony CEP 14-Day Tourbillon will definitely be dream watches for many people, myself included.

The "Lizards"  is definitely my favorite MDA Univers Infinis for men, along with the Fish wristwatch that was introduced in 2012.  It is just a fun watch, I can definitely see myself wearing it for casual events (this is the first watch with diamonds that I like on my wrist).  It would complement a "Fish" for business/suits oh so well!

The "Horsemen" was a very close second for me, compared with the "Lizards".  I had never heard of Marquetry before VC used it on this watch.  The dial really does look layered, but it is flat!

The "Angels" (and their "rivals") are pretty cool...but for the same colors, I like the "Fish" more.

The Historiques 1951 is a great shape and proves again that VC really is the master of the simple watch.  Simplicity in design is so difficult to do properly.

Like I said in the beginning of this post, I think people will look back at all that VC offered this year and realize it really was a great year!  Such great watches, and so varied!!!

I love this year!
Maybe that's one of the justifications for having

"Watches & Wonders" besides the annual SIHH, showcasing 2 sets of novelties to the crowd of media & collectors. But from what I had seen for myself, not all brands had done as well as VC, unfortunately. Melvin
I agree Melvin

The other Brands did not have much in terms of new novelties for W&W.  This is the first year of the Event, so I don't know what "regular" might be in the future. While I would love it if VC could pull off the same thing every year, like wines...I still think some years will end up being better than others :-) BR, Dan
Could not agree more

Thanks for the summative review of the VC year, Dan.  When you see all of the watches now released during 2013, it has been a most impressive year for VC.  Any year that includes a brand new MR movement and watch is going to be a milestone.  And two new Historiques watches!  I was actually pretty happy with just the release of teh gray dial Patrimony Traditionelle.  wink These live shots are killing me.  Even the MDA pieces are coming to life for me with these live images.  Best regards, Robert
Great post Dan. You have summed up 2013 quite well. Also

Your photos are excellent. I think Watches and Wonders makes a lot of sense since Asia is such an important market, and I believe HK is the largest watch market in the world in terms of direct imports. Maybe in due course there will be an Asian take on Basel? Who knows? Your wrist shot of the MR Is superb. It's so unfair that something so beautiful and phenomenal is so out of reach for most. :-( I love the Patrimony Traditionelle manual and 14-day tourbillon in Platinum. And also love the Chronograph. Now the big question is this: since VC has got the big Grande Complications under its belt, is 2014 going to be the year of the new in-house chronograph?
For some reason, these Swiss are pretty good at secrecy

Charlie, Christian, Dominique, Vincent and Alex are keeping their mouths shut! angrysmiley
It's good to know that someone in Switzerland still has

Secrecy as obviously their banking sector doesn't so much anymore :-).
My bet is, wait till the 260th anniversary of the manufacture

with any grand news... might be wrong but still it makes sense!
Beautiful photos and watches!

fan of what was introduced post SIHH!
Great post to put things into perspective Dan

A few of us came away from SIHH feeling that it was not the most spectacular year for VC - but going throuhg your post, 2013 has turned into one of the best vintages in recent years for VC! I absolutely love the 1731, and the EP 14 day tourbillon... and the more affordable level, I really really like the new Toledo, I actually prefer it to the previous model (I like the simplicity of the dial)... ...and you are not counting in there the London boutique editions - I think that the one released now is suberp :-) Cheers,  Francois
I'd love to see the London Specials in person!

I like the new Toledo 1951 better than the Toledo 1952. But I stil love the original Toledo "Jumbo" triple date the best.  cheeky
Great post Dan
