I've seen them on-and-off over the years....very nice IMHO.  Now if only there was a rubber-strap version

I have tried to cut straps in that shape for my Overseas, but they always came out being too floppy. That is, the width of the attachment was so thin that the unattached edges did not reliably line up with the edges of the watch.

strap where it joins the case is much thicker and has a metallic insert.
