Leapin' Lizards, its Leap Year!

Just returned from a backcountry outing and realized that today is the 29th of February, the bastard child of the Julian and Gregorian calendars and source of the label "bissextile" from the term bis sextum or "twice sixth" in reference to an earlier practice of counting February 24th twice to add the extra day.

Please post your correctly-set perpetual calendar watch, or the one you most covet.

Leapin' Lizards, its Leap Year

A paradox, a paradox. A most ingenious paradox!

Haha, haha, haha, haha....a paradox!

Nice one, Joseph

yes My grandfather was born Feb. 29 and would give his age in leap-years.

And to complete the refrain:

For some ridiculous reason, to which, however, I’ve no desire to be disloyal,

Some person in authority, I don’t know who, very likely the Astronomer Royal,

Has decided that, although for such a beastly month as February,

twenty-eight days as a rule are plenty,

One year in every four his days shall be reckoned as nine and twenty.

Through some singular coincidence – I shouldn’t be surprised if it were owing to the

agency of an ill-natured fairy –

You are the victim of this clumsy arrangement, having been born in leap-year,

                on the twenty-ninth of February;

And so, by a simple arithmetical process, you’ll easily discover,

That though you’ve lived twenty-one years, yet, if we go by birthdays,

you’re only five and a little bit over!

When my son was very small we used to drive him around to help him fall asleep. We played Pirates on a tape player and he really loved that song.

He actually became a big G&S fan and could quote long passages by heart from many of the operettas.

You never know what kids will pick up!

Happy Leap Day!

Thanks for this thread Dean...

This line from Benjamin Clymer at Hodinkee made me smile: "Today, as you surely know, is leap day – February 29th. You know this because that one guy in your life who spent his life's savings on a perpetual calendar can't stop talking about it."

Spot on.

Here's mine:
