Long time out.....

Dear Lounger friends,

I have decided to take a time out for a long period.
Perhaps for ever. There are many reasons.
I’ve been involved in this forum since it’s first second, when it was just a thought in Alex and my brains.
It’s been a success and we are both proud of that.
Anyhow, everything has it’s time, and sometimes you get a bit bored.
You see the same questions coming again and again.
I’m a vintage man both in interest and in life.
You are a new generation, interested in other fields than I am, and so it should be, but I still think that all of you should at least have one V&C pocket watch!
I quit my job as a doc, to get time over for other things in life,
than work, and actually if you are number second in line at
the forum, it also becomes a small kind of job.
It’s been fun, I learnt a lot, I met amazing people, and I have had some lovely laughs.laugh
I got several projects going outside the watch world, I been sailing this year for exactly 50 years, and now my little knowledge are requested in two projects, concerning this.

Long time out.....

One is, believe it or not, to help to create a new home site, this time commercial, and I also been asked to participate in a series of articles in a Sailing Magazine.
Then I have my little estate, with 7 roofs all together.

Now I have had carpenters changing all the windows from two glass to three glass in aluminium, on this little house. Also added one window, and I think it’s much nicer after.
Before

Long time out.....

And today when the carpenters left

Long time out.....

There are these animals,

Long time out.....

and those dogs and sometimes they meet.

Long time out.....

Duck taste quite good!

Long time out.....

It seems that I have more to do than ever which was exactly what I not had in mind, quitting some years earlier than normal retirement!
I have so much to read, even though I at the moment are reading 5 (!) books parallel!

There is no better place than this, to sit in the corner reading in the light of the kerosene lamp

Long time out.....

One thing is marvellous now, I have more time to spend outside working physically. Yesterday I throw two cubic meters of chopped firewood into the woodshed! A wonderful feeling.

Keep on your good work and enjoy every minute, now I’m so old, 63 years,( but still running two times a week, in the wood)
that it was fun to have birthday last week.
That feeling I haven’t had since I became 30 years old!

Cheers heart

Doc

...especially as I am still one of the newbies.  I will have to be satisfied with reading your old posts.  Best wishes for your continued retirement, which does not sound very retiring. I will do my best to follow your advice and find a VC pocket watch. I have no doubt you are right about this. respo
Thank goodness for email

Hey, 63 ain't so old blush.  I hope and pray that we can still connect by email and you will continue to guide me in the world of V&C cheeky.  Perhaps when you need a rest from your hectic schedule you might drop by for a virtual coffee in the Lounge.  Will you have time to write "the book" now?

Mats, Your decision saddens me but I do understand being of the same "vintage" myself. Have a great time. I'm happy I had the opportunity to discuss watches and other things and to have had the great pleasure of spending some time together. Very best wishes, Joseph

Dear Doc, I 'bumped' into the TP V&C site somewhere in 2004. I was searching for info on the then in production Chronometre Royal (which I still long for today) and have become adicted to all V&C ever since. I have been an avid reader of all interesting topics thanks in (large) part to you.  You have given quite some emotion to the discussions on that and this forum and it was always interesting to read, regardless whether I agreed or not with your views (mostly agreed, but not alwaysblush).  In these past years you, besides Alex, of course, have become an institution for all V&C information and will be greatly missed. Through all your posts I have sort of come to know you, your habits, lifestyle, etc. Almost like we had met and dined together.  I wish you all the best in your new endeavors and I hope that you will still "drop by" from time to time. Sincerely, Marko PS: you promised "THE BOOK" - if you change your mind I'll subscribe in advancesmiley
hate to see you go, Mats...

I can't imagine this place without you. It just won't be the same. You are a man of true and many passions and I can see you getting involved 100% in everything you do. One of them being  V&C. Hopefully you'll be back soon enough right here where you belong. Don't be a stranger.heart
I respect your decision , all the best , doc. Do drop by some time ...

Mats, it has taken a few days to process your recently announced a hiatus from THL to enjoy other pursuits, of which you have many.  Through our conversations, both on and off-line, I have benefitted tremendously from your perspective and knowledge.  You represent, for me, the quintessential “vintage” collector; more nimble of thought than age would imply, eager to both learn and teach, curious about the context of objects in relation to people and history, and forever questioning relevance or challenging revisionism.  Blessedly unpracticed in the subtle misdirection’s of the English language, I found your honest expressions of emotion immediately enduring when I first entered the Lounge nearly five years ago – you’re a big part of what keeps the place interesting.  I just want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for our time together and wish you many great adventures.  I feel great joy for you; after all this is not an obituary, just an au revoir heart
Hope to see you back here soon Mats
