Loungers' Monday? Need your thoughts

Dear Loungers,

We have had quite a few non watch related topics in the past...and that's great. We all have other hobbies and passions so let's share them. The Lounge is more than just a watch discussion forum, we have become a real community so its time we go the next step and create a Loungers' Monday where each week we can share something which has interested us, may it be a book, CD, film, exhibition, food etc...

Thoughts?

I think that's a good idea
03/09/2009 - 20:23

I personally have no issues with having off topic posts - au contraire, I enjoy them most of the time. if "grouping" them on Mondays is going to increase their acceptance level within the HL, then I am all for it. Cheers,  Francois

I have indeed gone AWOL for the last few months...  Although terms such as "long", "painful" and "proctology exam" come to mind, I'll just say that work has been very hard, and I've had very little sleep, and even less free time, these las few months.  And so the little free time I've had, I've spend it with my little boy, who's doing very fine, thanks for asking... And since you brought the subject, the proud father that I am cannot resist the temptation to post a little picture: I am very sorry that I missed the bunch at SIHH.  But it's good to be back.  And now Alex is going to have to organize another HL dinner in London so that I can see all these new models in the metal Cheers,  Francois
what a beautiful baby, you must be a very proud father :-) (nt)

if everything work out well, I'll be Grandfather in summer for first time, it seems to be a girl! Congrats and take good care Doc
Cheers Doc!
03/11/2009 - 15:12
Based on feedback from my parents, being grandparents is the best - you get all the good stuff, and none of the bad Good luck... Cheers,  Francois
And I'm breaking a bad family tradition!
03/11/2009 - 20:03
I never met my grandfather, because he died before I was born, and my son, never met his grandfather, my father died when I was 24 years old, 7 years before my son was born. So I better stay alive at least to the summer.... Hej! and take good care of that little jewel you have Doc
Wow, this is the most precious one can ever get!
03/12/2009 - 03:57
Congrats Francois! Happy times ahead....
Welcome back, we missed you Francois...

.

On another page?
03/09/2009 - 20:31
I think it would be great to open up the range of topics, but we have one discussion page, on that page are many threads, or discussion topics. My feeling is that you might order the site like TimeZone, with another page for non-watch related discussion. Now I realize TimeZone has about 30 different pages, and one topic per page, with many threads. I don't think we need more than 3-4 pages here. Maybe 1) modern VC 2) vintage V&C 3) other horology and 4) lifestyles. Or even one on spotting fakes.
Great ideas...
03/09/2009 - 20:43
to have more than the blog page .   I like the categories you've suggested too!
Excellent idea Alex...........
03/09/2009 - 21:31
I'm all for it no matter what format it takes! Best regards, Tom
Great idea
03/09/2009 - 22:00

C'est top, Alex! What a terrific idea! Many possible ways to do it, though: one section holds all; divide into different endevours and interests, arts, music, sports, travel, philosophy, etc. etc. Regards, Joseph
Philosophy will be a very nice topic (nt)

can't wait for the launch of the new feature - a must have on HL...
03/09/2009 - 23:43
it's a perfect idea. I am not sure what kind of a format it should be put into at this point. I hope we can all somehow work it out. How about a Lounger's Monday special thread where we can discuss our hobbies? OTOH, we do it anyway every once in a while... we discuss or hobbies here on the general HL forum. Maybe we should just be more open and encourage one another to go ahead and discuss off-horology topics... just a thought or two...
That's what I been trying for years now!
03/10/2009 - 00:33
Rember the post of Cassandre? I left ThePuristS, but not their photoforum or their 'belles lettres', where I still participate. I need to have other things between my ears than just watches !!! This I posted at Belle lettres at ThePurists last week! se above. Good, at last! Doc
Maybe in a specific folder? So watch realted topics & non-watch
03/10/2009 - 04:24
related ones don't get mixed up. But in general I think it's a good idea Alex. I don't really have a deep passion for any other things (except maybe Japan hehe), but I am in. Thanks!
I see a second, third and more, motion is passed! This is a great idea
03/10/2009 - 05:41
and am sure it will lead to more excellent posts. This is a great place. Best, Tim
I would participate.
03/10/2009 - 05:53
I think we could propose many interesting and thought-provoking subjects for each other.
Excellent idea, Alex
03/10/2009 - 07:33
I would be very interested in learning more about the Loungers and their interests!  Setting a specific topic would in my view open up for more sharing (e.g., everyone pitching in with their favorite play, book, music, whatever) vs. having a single member on his own initiative say "I really like Opera, particularly Mozart and Rossini" and having a few other folks (perhaps) reply to the original post. By the way, if you've never seen the statue of the Commendatore come to life in Act 3 of Don Giovanni, you're missing something... Best, GaryG
good idea to learn more about other interests. nt.
03/10/2009 - 08:04
nt.
Totally support the idea Alex
03/10/2009 - 10:44
I think dividing it by topic/subject matter will make it easier to follow, but I'll accept it in any format.   Like I mentioned in an earlier post, it will be interesting to see which topics "stick" with the Loungers and which ones don't. BR, Dan
A very good idea Alex,
03/10/2009 - 14:30
and this will enlarge our views, and help to share other hobbies among us.
Great idea! Count me in. (nt)
03/10/2009 - 15:49
Am pleased about the idea..............
03/11/2009 - 06:01
Think it will be well received and a great feature for our VC site. Will look forward to these special mondays. Thanks Alex for your great ideas! Best regards, Matt

hmm, a film... First thing came to mind, was "Lust Caution"- the scene in the Japanese restaurant, a flash of a watch on the actor's wrist, I thought it was a VC tonneau... Couldn't find VC on the sponsors' list at the end of the film... it was actually a Cartier. See, we are back into watches, maybe I'm crazy about watches like everyone else here, we just can't help it, anytime!
