A. 2007. I am curious why Alex has registered before the official anniversary date! :) B. Canada. We have two great posters from this fine country! C. It's a small world, story behind VC world timers But, I have to admit being partial to John Lydons article comparing the 47212 to the Patek 5970! :) D. The very fine movement 1400 Shame I don't have one of these Thanks Alex for all your fantastic work here, as well as all the loungers. This is a fabulous group of class people. Best, Joe

No he does not!
03/29/2014 - 23:45
respo does not have all of these gifts, but he is working on it! He especially wants that pen. He REALLY, REALLY wants that pen. And the belt. But we all know respo is a greedy boy. Best, Robert
Re: No he does not!
03/30/2014 - 20:35
What happened? I thought Daniel hooked you up with a pen. Miki
Re: Re: No he does not!
03/31/2014 - 00:07
He did. But not THAT fountain pen. As I said, respo is a greedy boy. In my book, Daniel is one of The Treasures of Vacheron Constantin. I am grateful to him for many reasons. Best, respo

Time flies. My VC traditionelle started my journey back in sep 2012 into haute horology and there has been no turning back since. Unlike many if you, I only have 1 VC still as I ventured into other brands but hey, my first love (VC of course!) Is always the most special one and the one I remember the most sweetly (imagine all the other brands I eliminated for my first high end dress watch back then). :) I won't take part in this contest as there are many much more worthy loungers who had posted so many great posts I have been enjoying since sep 2012. I hope one of these guys win the contest instead as they are truly deserving of these special VC collectibles (I wish I can buy that VC pen made by Montblanc! ). And also the old timers, thank you especially for making this forum like a special home for me. You know who you are especially the Canada one... :) Finally... thank you Alex for starting this all and also managing this forum and all your special reviews and reports. And also to Dan for the Chinese forum and also many excellent posts here. Happy anniversary to all! And a big congrats to all of us on the success of THL! :) Cheers Robin

Dear Alex, You are killing me! I am here, attending Baselworld, conducting various interviews, meetings and looking at novetlies. I am surviving on virtually no sleep and I see a note to enter a competion which is making me contemplate not bothering with my daily diet of four hours slumber. As an Hour Club member, I love the fun contest. It is only sleep deprivation that is stopping me from entering. I have a passion for Montblanc pens (and some other brands too). The belt looks gorgeous, but I am sure there could never be sufficient suede, in the western world, to envelope my waist. But, most of all, the American 1921 lithography calls to me - I love it.  So I have a question for Hour Club members. Which watch adorned my wrist when I arrived in Basel?  Thanks for keeping me awake :-) It is always interesting to share thoughts with kindred spririts. Best regards Angus

That is highly perspective Alex. It is amazing how many individuals within the industry remark that the 1921 is their favourite timepiece.  I would never sell this model. It is for keeps.  I suppose, at some point, I need a further Vacheron Constantin model to make it more challenging to guess. Best regards Angus

Re: The Lounge's Anniversary Contest
03/30/2014 - 07:09
At the very high risk of appearing self-serving and opportunistic in the extreme - I have been unwell and unable to access THL for nearly six weeks, sidelined from offering any sort of contribution, no matter how inconsequential, to this esteemed forum for some time, and only today have returned, to find this diverting draw for prizes - I will submit here my answers: a) The Hour Lounge was founded in 2007; b) Not counting our distinguished moderator, the Lounger with the highest number of posts is from Canada; c) I haven't figured out how to determine which article has been viewed the most on THL, so to further my shame I will follow the lead of my respected colleagues and state the answer as "It's a small world: The story behind Vacheron Constantin's World Timers." (Even more shameful, I have yet to read this article!); d) At least I know from my Patrimony Classique (81160|000R-9102) that Vacheron Constantin's first modern (post 2000) time-only manufacture calibre is Calibre 1400. I thank Alex for kindly sending me an email informing me of this Anniversary Event, without which I may not have accessed THL until an even later date (more shameful, still), and I give both my heartiest felicitations to THL and all the Loungers as a well as my warmest wishes of luck to everyone in this draw! Finally, a note of respect to jrwong23, acknowledging his graciousness in bowing out of the draw; one might say that my apparent acquisitiveness (and shamelessness) prevents me from following his example. (Also, apologies for the formatting of this missive, since my iPad still refuses to allow me to create paragraphs, as I can see via the preview feature.)
Hope you are feeling better now (nt)

03/30/2014 - 23:07
Can't... resist... swag...cool a) Which year was The Hour Lounge founded? 2007 to answer directly, but when is that much fun?  Alex posted the first thread on 22 March 2007: Welcome.  The first response, however, wasn't until dear Alberto chimed in on March 29 and then the flood-gates were opened!  I think Bill's pointer over at Purists on March 29 was of some help: Our friend Alex Ghotbi. A few other responders to that first post are respected and regular contributors still today, like Joseph and Tim.  Doc was there too, of course heart. b) Not counting me from which country is the Lounger with the highest number of posts? Canada, the Republic of Alberta wink (we have a Texas-type attitude up here).  I didn’t come on board until November of 2007 with an introductory post about my WG 6694 Batman, now gone.  Many watches and come and gone since, but dear friends and stimulating conversation remain here at The Lounge. c) Which article posted on the Lounge has had the highest number of clicks Top 10: The answer with 76205 clicks is: It's a small world: The story behind Vacheron Constantin's World Timers, posted on Thu Apr 7, 2011.  I also found these other most viewed articles to be a fascinating indication of just how varied our interests are: 70103    William Rohr COO of Antiquorum on collecting and Vacheron Constantin, Mon Nov 1, 2010 68650    SIHH 2013 A Personal Journey, Thu Jan 24, 2013 68484    Massive Attack: Vacheron Constantin's Most Complicated Timepieces, Fri Jul 16, 2010 62234    Slim is In: A look at Vacheron Constantin's Ultra Thin calibers, Wed Apr 14, 2010 58805    Quantum Leap: History of Vacheron Constantin Calendar Watches Part 3, Mon Dec 12, 2011 57094    Behind the scenes with creative guru Vincent Kauffmann Design Director, Wed Jun 29, 2011 55616    Quantum Leap: History of Vacheron Constantin Calendar Watches Part 2, Tue Nov 15, 2011 55087    Movement Finish: The True Mark of Haute Horlogerie, Tue Jun 10, 2008 53590    Vacheron Constantin and the Tonneau 100 Years of Creativity Part 4, Wed Nov 21, 2012 d) Which was VC's first modern (post 2000) manual wind timeonly manufacture calibre? This would be the calibre 4400, given a brief introduction with the Historiques American 1921 back in October of 2008, followed by the superb article on December 1st: The Dream Team: Historiques American 1921 and Caliber 4400. Further on the subject of THL contests, the first contest here on the Lounge was started on 14 July 2007.  It was for suggestions followed by a vote to choose a "team" name for us THL participants.  The Loungers was the winning name, proposed by Alex.  Hour Loungers, also proposed by Alex, was second.  Dan Shao, however, won the prize with 3rd place Vacheronistas, as our ever-ethical moderator excluded himself from the loot.  My question for Dan is, what was your prize?
Hi Dean. You really have great responses, I just
03/30/2014 - 23:39
finished with the tax people this week and can now look at our beloved THL. I will second Dean's responses and wish everyone the best of luck. I am not going to enter the contest, as I want others to win the prizes I have won in the past and enjoy that thrill--it really is a thrill. One request to all the winners, please post a picture of your bounty and give us all a story to go with it. Best, Tim
Well Tim, I have to admit to screwing up
03/31/2014 - 01:52
on the first modern manual-wind inhouse caliber, the 1400 introduced in 2001 blush.  This little marvel was a bit thicker than the most iconic 9-ligne VC cal. 1003 but at least brought shock-protection to the recipe. I was having too much fun digging up obscure details and forgot to pay attention to the questions!  Anyway, I'm pleased to join you on the sidelines and wish all others the best of luck yes.
And it is such a pretty movement, too
03/31/2014 - 02:33
At least I think so. I am definitely an admirer of the cal. 1400. Best, respo
Re: And it is such a pretty movement, too
03/31/2014 - 05:36
Congratulations on the occasion of THL 7th Anniversay. Thanks all involved (and the loungers too) for keeping this place so incredibly special. Keep up the good work. This is my post in two years but I'll join the fun contest anyway: (1) Year 2007; (2) Canada; (3) It's a small world:The story behind Vacheron Constantin's World Timers; and (4) Calibre 1400. Cheers, Teetann
Here's a very nice review of the movement.

It looks like the Grand Classique was the first watch to use it. It also has a fantastic guilloché pattern.http://thepurists.com/watch/features/8ohms/vc1400/index.html Regards, Joseph
Yes JB!

Re: Yesit does, Joe

There is a photo of it in the article. I used to own one a few years ago, but sold it (for some inexplicable reason!) Best, Joseph
Congratulations VC, Alex and THL!
03/31/2014 - 05:25
I am not going to enter the contest (though I do lust for that pen), but my answers would be: a) 2007 b) Canada c) It's a small world:The story behind Vacheron Constantin's World Timers d) calibre 1400 Thanks to all of the Loungers for helping make the past 7 years pass so quickly.  I am just extremely lucky that I got my first VC in 2007, about 1.5 years before my 10th year wedding anniversary (the watch was an EARLY anniversary gift). This is when I started searching for watch forums and first found PuristsPro...and THL came online only a few of months later! BR, Dan
After some soul searching, I enter.
03/31/2014 - 06:57
Soul searching because after reading the thread I don't really deserve much credit if my entries are correct. Nevertheless, here are my responses: 1. 2007. I come by that answer honestly because that is my year of registration. 2. Canada. I could have figured that one out with some work, but it would have been embarrassing to have to ask one my kids for help. 3. It's a small world. Ditto, but at least I read the post when it was new. 4. Caliber 1400 (I knew that one). Good luck to all entrants, and thanks to Alex for this and his many other good works.
Happy Anniversary
