From a lurker: a big thank you to Vacheron and alex for this wonderful

forum!

I've been lurking on the Hour Lounge for some time now and wanted to publicly thank Alex for his wonderful work here. It’s not easy to keep discussions flowing on a single brand forum and its even less easy finding subjects which interest both the knowledgeable and newbies like myself.

Even though I doubt I will participate a lot since as much as I love VC I don't know half as much as certain here but I thought that it was good to "come out of the woods" and say hello, bravo and keep up the good work.

I agree, this is a wonderful place and I wish other lurkers would also

Dear lurkers, you are utmost important !
05/29/2007 - 14:53

All has started as lurkers.

I lurked for over a year at a PuristS, before I was very active there for at least 3-4 years !

Now, when this absolute utmost place for us aficionados of Vacheron & Constantin,

yes I know, it's Vacheron Constantin nowadays, but for me,

a true vintage aficionado the & is a very nice symbol,

and in my secret dreams, I believe they will return to their original name

I mean, this company is the watch comapny of them all.

Oldest, continously producing watches for 252 years,

it's history,

and the letters exchanged between Vacheron and (&) Constantin,

are fascinating and nearly an adventure novel !

All other " old firms" are newly developed, finding an old name and

then build a story !

Girard-Perregaux, which I really like in their form since Macaluso took the rudder,

and I own some GP's,

was created 1852, and that's not bad, about the same time as PP,

but GP says they are from 1791 !

This because the owner of GP 1906, bought an old firm Bautte,

which once was founded 1791.

And suddenly GP was founded 1791 :-)

That's a history writing I can't accept !

So please lurk on, and you already have made the first step,

by posting !

I love to see as many names as possible,

and to me NO question is stupid, rember that.

I'm looking forward to all new faces, and if only a pic and two words, it's a lot funner,

than Alex and my name, on each and every post :-)

So from the bottom of my heart,

wellcome all lurkers !

Cheers

Doc

OK I'll play :-) the forum members are really knowledgable and

I don't always feel comfortable posting because I don't know much myself :-)  But I must say that I feel very comfortable here. Its a fine and welcoming community.

A forum needs participants those seeking annswers and those having the answers (I'm part of the former group) so I'll try ti lurk less and participate more.

So here I am Aldo the watchaholic... :-)

Aldo, that's a good response !

The whole thing is just to relax,

imagine an English Gentlemen Club atmosphere.

Step inside, sit down with a newspaper, have a cup of tea, coffe,

perhaps a whiskey and relax.

Listen to the other guys and suddenly someone sits down at your table,

and the conversation is running!

That's what I hope we shall reach at this cyber club :-)

Cheers and wellcome

Doc

One of the major problems is for me actually having something to
05/29/2007 - 18:48

say which adds value to the discussions.

However I can definately understand an appreciatethe difficulty of moderating a "niche" forum (vs general brand forums such as TZ or The Purist) and getting enough subjects and topics to keep people comming back!

I think that it will take time to get the lurkers to feel comfortable to post. Hell it took me more than a month :-)

We all started as newbies so no one should feel uncomfortable to
05/29/2007 - 20:26

post.

What may seem a silly or meaningless question could in fact be a question many are asking but not daring to post!

Why are Patek Philippe watches better than VC watches?
05/29/2007 - 21:33

Well, here is an example of a silly question. And no-one would think less of me for asking it.

Possible answers can be:

1. they're not.

2. you're in the wrong forum.

LOL !!

Liked that post

But that you would have guessed,

I suppose !

Wellcome back Nico

Doc

ROTFLMAO!! That is a good one :-) Welcome back!!
