Meet the formal part

Dear all,
Being overwhelmed by very warm welcome from THL members, I decided to introduce more "formal" part of my VC collection smiley
Owning SS/Ti Overseas, at first I thought what paired with dark grey leather strap, Overseas could look more formal than with rubber strap. But after almost half of the year, I finally decided, what Overseas, being perfect "smart casual" (less formal / sporty) watches, needs "formal"/"dress code" companion. It must be slimmer and must looks stricter.

After making this decision I finally could sleep well again and so my quest for next VC watches started.. angel

At first I chose Patrimony 85180 - perfect watches from my point of view heart. They has all whistles and bells I wanted: small window with date, seconds hand, automatic movement and most importantly - transparent back side heart So I digs Internet for different pictures of 85180, studies VC catalogues, reads 85180 owners reviews at THL and preparing myself for, well, "for one day in the future"  laugh

And - lucky me - just few days ago I'm visiting VC Botique and trying 85180 personally. Great surprise - they're really great at "wild life", not just on photos cool
But somehow I decided to take a look on it's smaller brother - Patrimony 81180 surprise

Oh.. blush

It was just an instant "hit-and-run" crying They just seats on my hand slightly more comfortable than 85180 (as 81180 is slightly more slimmer) but the main reason for me - well, really strange reason, still can't understand it for myself - main reason was sound of winding 81180 hand-wind movement (VC1400). It was love from first note, first touch heart I instantly decided what I already have VC Automatic watches (Overseas) so I don't need another automatic movement - and what all I need for NOW is 81180 angel blush devil

So please meet the "formal" part of my VC staff smiley

Meet the formal part

Meet the formal part

Meet the formal part

P.S.  Well... devil  From the other hand - I again don't have VC watches with transparent back case.. devil

Big congratulations Larry

goodies with the belt and cuff links yes IThe Patrimony Contemporaine has in its 10 years of existence really become an icon in the VC line up. Interestingly with the Overseas and Contemporaine you have two of the watches which have been in the VC collection for the longest. The big question nos is what will your next VC be?cool
Thank you! I hope to post more pictures with other VC staff later :)

I have the 81180 WG and I love it! As I always say there is something special about this watch, something Zen. Wear it in good health, Best, Stan
Thank you, Stan! :)
02/25/2014 - 16:53
Yes, you're right - something Zen.. I didn't spent too much time looking on pictures of 81180 being interested in glass-back of 85180, but trying it just one time with my own hands - and now I have them.. smiley Still amazed how fast I changed my mind.. laugh
Larry, you really know how to make an entrance!
02/25/2014 - 15:05
These 2 watches make a collection, yes I love the belt and cuff links. I'm going to have to see them on you in person one day! BR, Dan
Dan, thank you! :)
02/25/2014 - 16:54
Well, maybe one time smiley
Congrartulations Larry. You have chosen well. While

I believe that a transparent caseback is a nice touch to have; not having one is also a small price to pay when you have such an incredible movement and as you said it is the sound of winding it. Calibre 1400 is about ten years old or more, and I am sure it has an incredible sound when wound.  Also, you have a layer of gold on your wrist, and not saphire crystal; so that is a nice way of looking at it.  All in all, I love the Patrimony Contemporaine manual, whether PG, WG, or Platinum with slate grey dial. It is one of the most beautiful watches around and with your OS, all you will ever really need (but as VC owners and THL members, not all we will ever want :-) )
Thank you, kk! :)
02/25/2014 - 17:08
Yes, you're completely right. Preparing myself to getting 85180 in months, I've changed my choice just in 5-10 minutes after taking 81180 in hands just to check an statement I've read somewhere what due to small head the 81180 model could be hard to wind. And from my first trying I think I was trade just for that magical sound..  surprise I tried to think at that moment what later I'll be so sorry not to have 85180 with saphire caseback but I'm still not thinking so smiley  And thanks for such words of wisdom: "All you will ever really need, but not all we will ever want".  Sure I need to remember those words for myself.
And so it has begun...
02/25/2014 - 15:50
...you have already proceeded down the very dangerous path that VC has laid out for you with great care.  You have bought two new VC watches in a short period of time.  This so reminds me of my start with VC.  It is a wonderful illness we have.  wink The 81180 is a perfect complement to the Overseas.  Now you are ready for any occasion, any activity.  Gosh, I am always reminded just how gorgeous the manual wind Patrimony is when I see one beautifully photographed as you have done here. Every time I see one, it is a bit of a revelation.  As is the case for you, the 81180 just speaks a little more to me than the automatic Patrimonys with the date windows.  There is just something special about the purity of the dial on the 81180 that cannot be beat.  The cal. 1400 inside is one of the prettiest movements made today.  I have no doubt that you will get another VC, and one with an open caseback so you can admire the fine work VC does on a movement, but this pair you have now really could keep you satisfied for a long time, no? Now, as for the accessories!  Well, this is how I know you have the sickness for real.  crying  You are really making me jealous.  Those cuff lnks are beautiful!  But...I MUST GET THAT BELT!  It is missing from my collection, and I am now on a mission. Congratulations on your new VC collection.  How about a phto of the two watches together now?  You appear to have some real photography skills, so I look forward to a well composed family portrait.  yes Best, Robert

Best or Worst is there is no cure for this illness. It is especially critical to your bankroll ;-)
Thanks, couldn't say better! :-)

Here comes serious part
02/25/2014 - 17:56
Dear Robert, Many thanks for such detailed analysis blush I'm happy to see what I'm not alone in my "sickness" laugh Yes, that's the right name for my new hobby - and my wife uses exactly the same word cool   To be honest and serious - well, it was just about time for me at last year to change my both previous watches (dressy and casual), so I'd buy pair of watches anyway. So the question was not HOW MANY but rather WHAT manufacture to choose for new pair angel From the other (not so serious) side - whom I'm trying to foolish right now, huh? cool And you're right - accessories are the part of the fun! laugh I'd say - much more affordable part laugh So I hope I'll have them more often! blush angel I hope I'll please you later with more pictures of different VC staff angel  And if we'll return for serious side: the main important thing for me for now is understanding what I've just bought all what I need. So 3d VC will be rather a TOY. Not daily work horse, not formal watch - just a toy with price much bigger than both current watches. So this will be really serious decision for me and I'm currently trying to have fun with VC accessories, leaving dreams about 3rd VC for later time smiley I'm pretty sure, you have a right word for this time - probably "to grow up" or "to mature"? blush So I hope to spent this time here, at THL, while trying to decide if I could make that next step smiley
I agree with Larry's wife!...

Larry, my sympathy is with your good ladyyes..........It's time to convince her that you've now decided to go for quality rather than qauntity!wink... Goodness knows what else you've got up your sleeve but it's time to come clean young man!winkwink... A pleasure to read your responses and take on board your thoughts and aspirations. Regards Tony

Nice collection. I love everything, Larry. Congratulations! Excellent taste! I see we have similar tastes in watches and cufflinks. BTW, I love your avatar, Leisure Suit Larry. I played all those games with my kids, many years ago. Did you ever see "Freddy Farkas, Frontier Pharmacist" by the same software developer? Best, Joseph
Re: Re: Meet the formal part
02/25/2014 - 18:16
Joseph, Thank you! smiley Glad you liked accessories smiley Actually I also want to check VC Mother-Of-Pearl cufflinks also when I'll visit VC Boutique next time.. devil  P.S. Aargh, I played LSL so many years ago when my English was even worse than now crying But LSL1 was localised and for that time it was almost single PC game on Russian. Al Lowe even been told what LSL was so popular in ex-USSR so many peolpe thought what LSL was part of MS-DOS.. cool So even if Freddy Farkas scrennshots seems familar to me, looks as I remember only Freddy Farkas title, not the gameplay.. frown
Lovely duo of VC's!!
