Is this your NEW vintage piece Joseph?
11/23/2009 - 02:56
I recall your earlier hint about having a new vintage watch and have waited patiently for the reveal .  This Historique is best of both worlds...modern construction and vintage appearance .  Great color combo (had a salmon dial Rolex once and really enjoyed it) and WG Vacherons are always special.  The bonus is that the back is as wonderful and the front .  Tell us the story of how you found this beauty? BTW, Grandpa says hello...
Yes it is, Dean

The story is a bit convoluted and I would be happy to supply the details to you in Geneva. Remind me at dinner. Anyway, I have always been fond of this particular combination, white metal and salmon dial, hence the Patek. This one became available at an excellent price and I just happened to have the money available (or most of it). So it was not a difficult decision. Unfortunately for me, about one week later, a Tribute to the Great Explorers also became available, but alas, by that time the piggy bank was empty. Perhaps in the new year. The watch is in outstanding conditions and I am very delighted with it. So now I join Lin and Nicolas (from the Purists-amanico) as very happy owners of this chrono. Regards, Joseph

Re: Stunning!

Thank you for the kind words. I've seen many combos for this watch, including a black dial. But for me this is the ultimate combination. The guillocage is really beautiful. Regards, Joseph

Thank you Lin. But I have to blame (thank) you. When I saw yours a few years ago at the SIHH dinner chez Vacheron...I thought, quoting Will Smith in the movie "Independence Day".. "I gotta get me one of those!" BTW que veut dire "HGT" Best wishes, Joseph
HGT = Hommage aux Grands Explorateurs (sorry for the T)

Joseph, I can't say your collection knows no bounds...
11/23/2009 - 17:21
as you didn't pick up the Mercator right away :-(.  But it is near limitless :-).  I can't imagine what VC would do if you (God forbid) change brands. Yet another beautiful addition, the salmon dial is truly special. Congrats!  BR, Dan
Thanks, Dan

I only wish my bank account were as boundless as my desires! My passion will always be for Vacheron although I do has a keen fondness for the Chopard LUC collection. Many thanks, Joseph
Congratulations to our resident evolutionary watchologist!

That is a great threesome JB. I like the thread by which you are weaving your collecting theme with these watches. Bill
Thanks Bill,

I am very happy with this collection but believe it or not i am slowing down...a bit. The watches I'm interested in rarely come up for sale or are to expensive to justify. But every once in a while, with a little patience, one gets lucky. Regards, Joseph

Awesome watch, well done on the patience and luck thing, and I hope it brings a smile to your face every time you open the box and strap her on. I luurve chronos, and if they have rectangular pushers...  ahh!

Thank you, hewitgar...

for the kind comments. I love chronos too and this one is very special indeed. Regards, Joseph

This is one of my all time favourites from VC. Gongrats! Understatement, but with lots of great details to love There have been two available (what I have seen) in the last months and now there is only one ... As much as I like the salmon dial, it doesn´t look good on my wrist. So PT, black dial has to be my choice ... - one day Will you keep it on the black strap or do you have something else in mind? Oliver
Thanks, Oliver
11/24/2009 - 13:51
I've only seen a black dial once, very rare (i think) As far as the strap is concerned, I think I will change it eventually to a really dark brown. I have one but not the right size. I will look into it when in Geneva. Regards, Joseph
Impressive collection or rather the beginning of splendid collection.
11/24/2009 - 13:27
I love VC's historical chronographs . Regards Mariusz
Re: Impressive collection or rather the beginning of splendid collection.
11/24/2009 - 13:54
Thanks, Mariusz. I agree. They have a history of some great chronos. But this one is my favourite. I consider myself very lucky indeed...to have obtained one, and to have so many friends with whom to share it! Regards, Joseph
Que dire, Joseph, que dire?
11/28/2009 - 00:19
...I am lost for words... Splendid, one of your bests (and that says a lot!) So as you say, you are now one of the lucky few, along with our dear Lin (I was also blown away when I saw his salmon dial VC at SIHH 2 years ago). I agree with you, a dark brown strap would be sublime... My friend, may it only time happy moments! Cheers, Francois
