Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

When I was in my teens up to 22 years of age, I played golf. I played mostly at the home court, only 9 holes than.
When I begun studying at the University, after some years and working extra as a security guard, to survive, it became quite obvious that I couldn't afford playing at greenfee, on the 2 (!) golf courts that were in the whole Gothenburg area 1972, on nearly 700.000 inhabitants.
Now we have two fine 18 holes Golf Clubs in my little hometown, 37.000 people.
So I said to myself when I get 55 years old, I will start playing again, but than I still had to much to do
and the enormous golf-boom in Sweden was evolving Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

Golf has been a 'nuisance' in Sweden, the monthly magazine Golf,
is the most spread of all Swedish monthly magazines, all cathegories.

Now a fast and sharp downfall has reached the Golfplayers, they are halfed in one year,
from 600.000 to 300.000, yes it's true!
But think of 600.000 players in a population of 9 millions, even 300.000 is much!
It mostly depends on that peolpe can be members in a club 2000 km from home for a cheap amount,
and then play on greenfee, on other courts during vacations for instance.
Now more and more Clubs are stopping these "briefcase clubs" members from greenfee playing,
among them the one I now entered.
'My' club went to bancruptcy because to great cost of shares and there of to little players.
Still it's a marvellous court.
Instead they now have a fixed sum yearly, that you pay once a year and no 'locked' money.
So yesterday I bought a very nice little used set of Callaway grafit clubs, and some others.
My old MacGregor clubs are for the Museum Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.
The bag is brand new and that I got from my future son in law + a new wagon with three wheels,
which he won a week ago Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.
He had had 3 under scratch when he was exchange university student in USA, and was offered a scholarship!
Now he is playing on scratch.
Luckily he went home to my daughter and to finish his studies here.
Talking watches as we use to otherwise, the price for these clubs was a bargain Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

As you see they are hardly played with, even parts of the price labels are still left Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

Nothing to blame on, just go out and play, we did 9 holes in an icy wind, but sunny, the day before yesterday.
There is hope Monday and I done what I promised myself 38 year ago.

That was my Monday project,
so let's see yours !

Carpe Diem

Doc

Hope springs eternal!! This is the week out Tennis club opens and I start [playing tennis again 2 or 3 times a week with my nephew who is already quite a tennis player.  I taught him how to play about 9 years ago and then he went to the Nick Bolletiri tennis Acadenmy for High School and got a tennis schlorship to college.  I have,t taken a set in 6 years and I've been playing for 35 years. You'd think he'd give his uncle a break.  Here he is in action!  Wish me Luck....I'll definitely need it! All the best...Life is short but good! Tom
We actually have a tennis gymnasium

in this little town. Gymnasium = upper secondary/high school, the three last years in a 12 year's school. i an se that Robin Soderling, is number 24 on ATP and he has gone that gymnasium. Sweden isn't like when Bjorn Borg, Mats Wilander or Stefan Edberg was in action, all three has been number one in the World for shorter or longer periods. Good luck to you and your nephew Cheers Doc

either disappear during the week end to play gold or to spend time with them. Needless to say that I haven't played in almost 5 years! I'm more than itching to practice my swing this summer though...
Alex...you meant golf not "gold" right?........

Alex, you are in the same situatiion and age

as I was, when I were asked, if I shouldn't take up golfing again.  With two children and a full work it doesn't work if you will enjoy the fun part of golf, being better!  I just been at the drving range for 45 minutes, it only takes 15 minutes to go by a little black car to the Golf Club,  on a very fun and curvy way I guess there are advantages with retirement, but you have to fill up the time.  That is not hard, I still have a company and shall meet the bank director tomorrow(exspensive clubs),  no they weren't! Take care and give my regards to your growing family Mats

Well, sounds like a familiar story for many of us!  I'm looking for a new set of clubs to replace my un-used museum pieces and would appreciate any advice. I really like irons where you have a feeling of weight to the heads and not too stiff in the shaft.  Can anyone suggest a brand that meets this criteria?
