Mostly OT: for those who have an other vice...

Dear fellow Loungers,

I saw a nice Namiki Yukari Royale Red coming out of a pocket during the last VC dinner in Geneva, I thus imagine that I'm not the only one to have the "pen vice" as well as the "VC vice" ;)

That's why I d'like to share with you a discovery I made this WE which really pleased me!

A few weeks ago I received an email from Louis Vuitton telling me that they opened a "Cabinet d'Ecriture" in Saint Germain des Prés.  I did not know what to expect (marketing bullshit ?) but was walking nearby on Saturday, I thus took the opportunity to visit the shop...

And I can tell you that it is worth seeing! More than a shop they created a dedicated "cabinet de curiosité" showcasing vintage LV trunks and furniture, photography, books, writing accessories (including an incredible Japanese maki-e calligraphy set and a Tibetan ink well). Definitely a lot of things to see...

And some stuff to buy as well ;) They created a dedicated line for pen lovers, including a broad range of nicely colored ink (I'm still loyal to Iro-Shizuku), paper, envelop, pen & calligraphy trunks (very nice, but very pricey as well), and pen cases! They of course have a new line of pens, but I did not find it very convincing compared to pens from "real pen making" companies.

I could however not resist buying one their pen case as it is the first time that I find a reasonably sized, nice looking one which is also able to carry in a safe way the 4 "men sized" pens I use on a daily basis (Nakaya (very) Long Cigar, Sailor King of Pen (they call it King, not Queen ;), Namiki "Zodiac Dragon", and Namiki "Wave of Okinawa").

The finish is very good, they offer "in shop" personnalization (initials stamping), and the price is quite reasonable as well! Only potential drawback, this  line will be only sold in this specific St Germain shop and nowhere else (at least in 2013)

Mostly OT: for those who have an other vice...

And cherry on the cake, the color scheme matches perfectly a ti Overseas!

It was only a first visit, I might have some pictures to share in the near future ;)

First, thank you for posting  a picture of the watch I just ordered! Its actually one of the better pictures i've seen of it online. The LV store seems very cool. So far (for the most part) LV seems to still be putting out some quality stuff and not dilluting their brand in order to attract the masses. The only problem with the LV brand is every time I see a girl with a LV bag two things cross my mine 1.) which guy bought it for her 2.) she lives in basement suit and starved herself just to be able to buy it. Thats the look in my city anyway. I do like the Christmas ordiment box I saw in NYC last year though. It was a full sized trunk with LV ordiments...was in the nieghborhood off 100k thou. Id be very curious to know more about the furniture they're making. Did you take any pictures?
Very nice

A very interesting report. I too am a big fan (amateur) of the Iroshikuzu inks, my favourite being their Ku-Jaku (turquoise) colour. But have to say that I do like the Noodler's Navaho Turquoise as well. I'm not sure if Noodler ink is available in France. ? When I was in Paris my daughter and I went to L'Ecritoire near the Centre Pompidou and I picked up a nice custom turquoise ink as well as an encre nacré in blue (to be used only with a pen which you dip into the ink a l'ancienne. I even bought such a "plume" and it had a real plume attached. My collection is quite varied but my favourite is my Pilot Nightline with the mother of pearl and urushu laqueur. It's nice to find that pens and watches do go together. All the best, Joseph

Thanks for injecting some non-watch related thread into this forum! The holder looks great! Pity i can't appreciate the pens it's holding, though they look lovely!
Love the pens, and you got a great case for them!

Was there something other than an Overseas in the photos?

laugh  I love seeing your gray Overseas Auto.  The pens are beautiful as well and the new case is wonderful -- maybe they will sell it elsewhere after 2013... Thanks for the post and hope the MBA studies are going well, Seb. Best, Robert
Les Deux Magots

If I remember right that LV shop is next to “Les Deux Magots” cafe, where my clever wife pored a bottle of half decent claret down my throat to loosen up my wallet before we visited the LV shop next door.
