My favorite vintage Vacheron & Constantin ref. 4724 with two costumes.

Some years ago I bought in a very low price this masterpiece which needed some repair. It datesfrom the early 50's. It is the best watch in my humble collection. While presenting the watch please allow me one question. Is it true that VC used to produce only 24 identical watches before a variation was made to one of the variables (dial color/index style/guilloche pattern/etc.) at that time? So is that one of the 24?

In order to repair the original movement I bought another 454 movement with a fantastic guilloche dial. I kept the second movement for future repairs and this is how the watch looks after I change the dial the hands, (slightly thicker) and the crown.
Of course I keep and use also the original dial, hands and crown. Enjoy!!!

My you have been busy yes.  The 4724 had one of the larger cases of the period and shared the design with the the 4838 Chronometre Royal.  I like both of your dials a lot!  It seems the guilloche work on the original is a bit more complex...did you investigate having it restored?    I cannot see "SWISS" on the replacement dial...is it refinished?
Gorgeous dial. In a catalogue from the 50s it is indicated that only

I really doubt that this dial is refinished. I can’t be 100% though because that is how I found it.
very nice oversized elaborate dial vintage .. i much prefer...

the hands before replacement though.  more stick-like and VC signature style i see very often in watches the same era, also the hour hand seems much longer and appear more balanced on the dial. but that's just me. congrats on your acquisition.smiley

Great piece, Mario! Both dials work for me...

and I especially love  that everything about this watch is genuine, matching numbers and all. This is my biggest fear with vintage - franken watchesno The case size is great considering that at that time VC used to produce 33mm pieces as an average. Enjoy and may it tick away only happy timeswink
Magnificent

I didn't know that this case's shape was also with a 454 , I just knew the Chronomètre Royal. It has a so much personnality, what a presence for a small watch, with these massive cylindrical lugs. A beauty especially with that fantastic dial. Thansk for sharing ! Francois
