I was afraid of that given i could not find an exact match, what are the key indicators?

here's a photo of the real McCoy

the case on your watch does not look like a Malte case and looked poorley made, the dial gullochage was off, the case back was wrong (the Malte Grand Classique case back looks like in the photo below - scan courtesy of Bill Lind) and the whole watch did not look like anything from VC and looked poorly made in general.

sorry to be the one breaking the bad news

Yes, VERY diffrent indeed, I actually found mine in an airport this week and was pretty sure, things like a serial number were a must.

After I saw your mesage this morning I pulled the back off to look inside for the 1st time and it was clearly a fake.

I was pretty sure the back should have been see through

the worst is that the back is actually engraved with the word

"saphire" and it is not a saphire crystal back!!

Alex Thank you very much for your expertise, I appreciate the time you took to walk me through this.

The news is not all that bad since I found this one. I look forward to the day when I get a real one.

You're site is extremely informative and there is a wealth of great info to browse through

I'm glad that this bad experience did not turn you away and hope to

"see" you here on line

Isn't it amazing the level of detail the counterfeiters attempt?

In this case they even tried to replicate the unique swirling guilloche of the Grande Classique.  I have nothing but contempt for these people who attempt to deceive the uninformed.  Recently I saw an attempt to poorly copy Doc's beloved Dual Time Regulator.  There's a special place waiting in hell for these people.
