A new found: “Blue Sapphire” Vacheron & Constantin, Genève, Ref. 296. 1930ies.

I have found this very nice Art Deco "modernist era" wristwatch. Antiquorum used to describe it as “Blue Sapphire” Vacheron & Constantin, Genève,  Ref. 296. Made in the 1930ies. Very fine and rare, pink gold, Art Deco gentleman’s wristwatch with sapphire-set dial and hooded lugs.

Yes, it was a man's wistwatch of 30 mm diameter: today a woman would probably be more enclined to wear it.

I guess, I will have to offer it to my girl.

As a reminder, the applied indexes are made of round and baguette-cut sapphire...

Truly exceptional...

and I mean that! Thanks for posting such a beautiful, early classic, and congratulations to both you and your girlfriend!

A wonderful find and holiday surprise for her!yes  I like the blue sapphires.

I picked up a watch this year from the 1930s as well, and it is often mistaken to be a woman's watch.  But I like it and it fits my scrany wrist especially well, especially above my wrist bone.

Very Nice Berny, I'm sure she will be very happy!

This watch is going to stay with me.  It has a cal 435 form movement and fills a spot in my "decades" collection that covers the 1930s... plus, Daisy already got another one from me earlier this year, from 1967:

Very Nice Berny, I'm sure she will be very happy!

Thank you, Dan.

Could you let me know if Daisy's watch is a  ref. 6290 (26 x 26 mm) with calibre 1003 ?

Best regards,

Berny

It is a Ref. 7297, 27mm x 27mm

with a cal 1001/2, which I think is one of VC's best and most beautiful movements (I love the classic 5-bridge design):

It is a Ref. 7297, 27mm x 27mm

Excellent find!

A lovely Art Deco treasure, very rare.

There was one in platinum in the 2005 Millenium Artiquorum sale...same case, slightly different dial.

Well done!

Like Dan, I'd wear it in a heartbeat heart.  Thanks for sharing this gorgeous timepiece!  Is there any way I can persuade you to post a picture that shows the sapphires in full luster?
